I'm the only one who thinks this doesn't count as a band.

But I love him.

I'm not a big Bruce fan, so I leave it to the Springsteen fanatics, but isn't it a little surprising there's only one Born in the USA tune here?

Not at all. A lot of longtime fans look at that album as an unwelcome departure and a baldfaced crossover maneuver.

I think Springsteen and the E-Street band cut every song up until then "live" in the studio. "Dancing in the Dark" was the first time they laid something down track by track. Irionically, it was released with a video of them performing it "live."

Yes, inclusion of 'Glory Days' is blatant vote-whoring to those who might know Bruce only from his best-sellers. In my mind, almost any song from any of the first --edit -- five -- records beats Glory Days in a fair fight.

Dickshot's still sore about Queen and the Pretenders going down.

Was at the Met game today (did you hear, they lost):

Hello, I Love You
Light My Fire
5 to 1
L.A. Woman
Roadhouse Blues
Soul Kitchen
Riders on the Storm
People Are Strange
Break On Through
The End

I was just sick of seeing the Doors ranked No. 3 but I'll take whatever revenge I can get too.

Ineligible for the contest, but worth a listen, is a free video on Amazon for Bruce's new album of classic folk interpretations, due out next week:

"Thunder Road" vs. "Hello, I Love You"

And Roy Bittan pulls a Ricky Henderson and homers on the game's first pitch. Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band

"It’s Hard to be a Saint in the City" vs. "Light My Fire"

"Saint" was one those songs that stoned and drunk guys quoted at parties, as if every word of it was Keats, and they were brilliant for understanding. I get enough of that with Doors songs, thanks. The Doors

"Rosalita (Come out Tonight)" vs. "5 to 1"

"Five to One" is the odds of that song winning. Rosey comes the Hell out. Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band

"Darkness on the Edge of Town" vs. "L.A. Woman"

"Darkness" is why the E Street Band was the only group that needed both a full-time pianist and a full-time organist. Both guys go into the mystic here, Bruce looking for salvation, Morrison looking for a hot time and a score. It's Easter and I'm going Bruceward.

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band

"Born to Run" vs. "Roadhouse Blues

Shut up. Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band

"Brilliant Disguise" vs. "Soul Kitchen"

Everything about Tunnel of Love should have sucked. After getting slick and simple and accessible on his last album, he followed up with a mature album about relationships. Ugh, you'd think. But he ended up spitting out two of his best singles. Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band

"She’s the One" vs. "Riders on the Storm"

How many piano songs have made you want to turn up the volume like "She's the One"? With his voice smothered in Spectre echo like he's crying from the bottom of a dungeon of lust, and then... and then we get to the bridge, and Clarence throws a rope down to him and pulls him up by his saxophone. My word!

"Riders on the Storm" was a fun song to sing back in our baseball days. A guy would check the lineup card not see his name, sit down with a grumpy face and we'd sing, "Riders on the bench..." Of course, it was the regular riders who would sing it.

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band. Hell, yeah.

"The E Street Shuffle" vs. "People Are Strange"

Bone. The Doors. Springsteen would write "dance" songs that we're awkwardly polyrythmic back in the day.

"Glory Days" vs. "Break On Through"

Don't whore for my vote. "Glory Days" featured too many warped vowels by the suddenly oddly accented Springsteen. Listen to it. His friend is a "big biceball player." The Doors

"Tunnel of Love" vs. "The End"
This is the other shockingly good single from Tunnel of Love. Nils Lofgren's guitar solo never stops sounding new.

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band

A victory for Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, 7-3.

This was much closer on my ballot than I would have anticipated. I could see Bruce stealing anoth 2-2.5 votes with a little different play list. The catalog of good songs ammassed by Bruce and the E Street Band is so deep and extensive that it makes it extremely difficult to pick 10 without leaving some standouts of the list.

10-0 Bruce. Thought you would've lost on the head-scratching choice of E Street Shuffle, but it benefits from the lucky matchup.

Dancing in the Dark was cut "live" like most of everything else that Bruce did at that time. Sax solo was overdubbed, but that's something they had done as early as Spirit and Blinded from Greetings.

"Born in the USA" gets a bad rap. It's "not like the old stuff" which is a common Springsteen fan complaint. There are a couple of fantastic songs on there, just perhaps some dated production and/or synthesizer sounds.

"Thunder Road" vs. "Hello, I Love You" -- Tie. The Doors would have won if the song weren't plagiarized.
"It’s Hard to be a Saint in the City" vs. "Light My Fire" -- Doors
"Rosalita (Come out Tonight)" vs. "5 to 1" -- Springsteen
"Darkness on the Edge of Town" vs. "L.A. Woman" -- Springsteen
"Born to Run" vs. "Roadhouse Blues -- Springsteen
"Brilliant Disguise" vs. "Soul Kitchen" -- Doors
"She’s the One" vs. "Riders on the Storm" -- tie
"The E Street Shuffle" vs. "People Are Strange" -- Doors
"Glory Days" vs. "Break On Through" -- Doors
"Tunnel of Love" vs. "The End" -- Doors

Doors 6-4, though it's closer than the score indicates.

Thunder Road " vs. "Hello, I Love You" - Bruce
No contest here

"It’s Hard to be a Saint in the City " vs. "Light My Fire - Doors
Close call but LMF is the song that turned me on to FM radio. Up to that point I had only heard a cut-down version of LMF minus the guitar solo. Hearing the whole thing let me know what I had been missing.

"Rosalita (Come out Tonight) " vs. "5 to 1 - Bruce
Even though radio programmers played this song into the ground, it's still a great live piece

"Darkness on the Edge of Town " vs. "L.A. Woman - Bruce

"Born to Run " vs. "Roadhouse Blues - Bruce
Another wipe-out. Bruce's wall-of-sound masterpiece vs a posthumus hit thanks to its opening woke up this morning and I got myself a beeyah' line that appealed to drunken teens everywhere.

"Brilliant Disguise " vs. "Soul Kitchen - Bruce

"She’s the One " vs. "Riders on the Storm - Bruce

"The E Street Shuffle " vs. "People Are Strange - Bruce

"Glory Days " vs. "Break On Through - Doors
So-so Bruce vs an energetic 2-minute powerhouse

"Tunnel of Love" vs. "The End - Doors
Mostly for it's use in 'Apocolypse'

7 - 3 for Broooooce!

"Thunder Road" vs. "Hello, I Love You"
--Redemption beneath a dirty hood. This song is pretty much unimpeachable. HILY is fun and all but no match.

"It’s Hard to be a Saint in the City" vs. "Light My Fire"
--I suppose it depended on how the matchups came out, but I thought my darkhorse from 'Greetings' -- "Does this Bus Stop at 82nd Street?" would do poorly so I went with somewhat less obscurity. LMF is pretty good too, obviously. Doors.

"Rosalita (Come out Tonight)" vs. "5 to 1"
--Never thought much of 5 to 1. Bruce, all night and all day, and in the lonely cool before dawn.

"Darkness on the Edge of Town" vs. "L.A. Woman"
--Power vs. Power! LA Woman packs a punch, but Bruce is up on that hill with everything he's got while Mr. Mojo is only risin'. Bruce wins with shattering fury.

"Born to Run" vs. "Roadhouse Blues
--Uh... Bruce

"Brilliant Disguise" vs. "Soul Kitchen"
--Great melody, sad, profound and personal. Bruce

"She’s the One" vs. "Riders on the Storm"
--Bruce

"The E Street Shuffle" vs. "People Are Strange"
--I very much like my choice of E Street Shuffle: I like how it all just spills out all over the place right from the start and as sparks fly on E Street you realize: They've captured this guy at a moment where he's unconsciously great but still young raw and funloving. So sayeth the Boy Phophets. People are Strange barely rates above a novelty song.

"Glory Days" vs. "Break On Through"
--Doors. At least BoT is one of my favorite Doors selections.

"Tunnel of Love" vs. "The End"
--Other people have previously better expressed what's wrong with the End, but I'l add: It's boring too. Tunnel of Love had this big fake sound that took me a while to warm to but it's a great, great song about learning to live with what you can't rise above. Bruce.
