In the ludicrous thread about trading David Wright, mm opined that "Met fans would rather win 90 games with David Wright, than 95 games without him, because he is a Met." Is this true?

I'd rather win 110 games with David Wright.

i gotta go with KC's answer

That's almost an hour of not responding to my posts. Shall I start the clock again?

Why not 162 games with David Wright? For each of the next 30 seasons, too. There's no reason that couldn't happen, as long as you click the ruby slippers and repeat "There's no place like home" and "I believe in fairies.".

Stick to baseball, champ.

I think at this point we need to settle for 160-2.

Ultimately, I'd rather keep Wright and give up the five games because he'll win a hell of a lot more than five over his career.

of course i meant that as a blanket statement to cover the opinions and feelings of all met fans everywhere. we're a remarkably homogenous group, the many many millions of us.

I agree with everything that everybody has said!

I personally love Kool-Aid, but I've never had any at marathon's house. Seeing as how he's a runner and all, he probably puts in less sugar since he prefers longer-burning complex carbohydrates. So his Kool-Aid is probably watery.

So to answer the question, no I don't want a glass of mm's Kool-Aid.

Imagine what this place would be like if the Mets were 2 and 9....

Obviously we'd all be much happier, because we're a bunch of self-loathing losers who are only happy when we're rooting for a losing team.

The best possible thing would be for the Mets to go 0 and 162 with Mike Piazza playing all nine positions.

It just dawned on me, I don't think I've had a glass of Kool-aid since like 1970.

It's pretty foul stuff. I don't drink any of that kind of beverage anymore, but I always preferred Hi C. With Kool-Aid you could always tell it was made from powder. Hi C you can at least try to pretend it's juice.

and actually, i prefer my kool-aid extra sugary.

I don't quite understand that comment, but I think it threatens my marriage.

Now, do the Mets win 95 games every season without David Wright or just for one season? If the Mets win 95 games this season and then go in the toilet for the next ten years that's not as good as the Mets winning 90 or so games every season of David Wright's career is it? There are just too many nuances for me to answer this question.

Bret Sabermetric

Oh, bullshit, WP. You know perfectly well that the famous mm quote specifically refers to keeping Wright and winning 90, or trading him and winning 95. You're over-complicating a simple equation by introducing variables that aren't there, and then claiming that the equation is too complex to answer as phrased.

KC

I find it a tricky question, so I abstained from voting. Three hundred views
and ten votes - maybe I'm not alone in my thinking.

He also said this:
]and i'm sure that met fans will view wright as more re-signable than willis/cabrera, wether or not that's really true, which will of course lead to complaints of trading away 15 years of the future for not more than three years of the present.

i would not want to be the met gm who is forced to make a deicison if faced with this trade proposal. in the end, i'd likely ultimately pull the trigger, and hate myself in the morning.

So the ambiguity is there already. But I'm sure you know that already because I know you wouldn't pull quotes out of context to support a straw man argument.

Bret Sabermetric

The ambiguity is there in any hypothetical deal that probably wouldn't happen for a variety of reasons. So are you claiming that the whole subject of possible trades is too fraught with uncertainty to phrase a clear question abut, or that I did a bad job here? If the latter, let's hear your lucid phrasing, please.

KC, for a guy who isn; responding to any more of my posts, you seem unusually active. Is the non-responding tack over, or is just going to be applied very selectly? I need to know in order to be able to know how to twit you in the future. Thanx.

The current plan is (subject to changes without notice) to ignore your extra-
carricular activity and just post. So happens, I chimed in on the Giambi thread
and a few others and acted like a perfect gentleman. Twit away.
