JD- i disagree with the definition of quality starts, when the league ERA is under 4.5 3 runs over 6 shouldn't be considered quality.
|
Johnny Dickshot Apr 17 2006 11:34 PM |
It was 3 over 6.2 which is less than 4.50..., um, something like 3.50 (don;t trust my math this late).

i'll agree that a so called quality start is the minimum i'd like to get out of my starter, but that doesnt make it "quality", quality should be above the minimum. back to my point though, which is that an outing like this doesnt deserve, imo, too many points and that if zambrano had had this identical outing he'd get less points than pedro would.

Nady's wondering what exactly a guy has to do to get the most points on a day when a pitcher submits a so-so performance.

have the pitcher not be named pedro.
|

Do you really think Pedro deserved much less than 2.48 for (W) 6.2 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 8 SO?

People have been sucking up to Glavine too. Even in losses that he's responsible for by serving up meatballs to Andruw Jones.
|
Yancy Street Gang Apr 20 2006 12:02 PM |
In Glavine's case, I think 8 innings and one earned run is a very good contribution towards winning, and deserving of a good chunk of points.
|
Willets Point Apr 20 2006 12:18 PM |
Maybe, but I factored in that a) a loss in an important game against a major division rival didn't deserve many points to the Mets overall so I only awarded the minimum 6 b) Glavine's pitching sucess was aided by the winds and the Braves scrub lineup and c) the Jones homer and Wright's errors were responsible for the the loss so Glavine loses a point as co-goat du jour.

giving pedro ANY points for this outing while not giving glavine AT LEAST 5 for 8 innings and 1 earned run is the epitome of the pedro ass-kissing that i am alleging takes place.

I'll always give points to a pitcher who goes 6 innings. Even if he gives up 7 earned runs, I'll throw him at least a half point for sticking in there long enough to save the bullpen a little work.

2.5 may be about right. It depends on what else happened that game. I only gave him two because of Nady and Delgado I also think Nady deserved more than what he got.
