As for the Nats, apart from having, you know, the best hitter in the division, this isn't looking like much of a lineup yet.

Turner and Soto are stars. Schwarber and Bell are dangerous power hitters. It still could be a pretty good lineup, depending on which Bell shows up for 2021.

Turner is a star. Soto is a superstar. I certainly don't want to short-sell the 2019 champs, but five guys in that lineup had awful seasons in 2020.

So it's certainly worth holding on to Dom. He'll get his at-bats.

Switching the Mets lineup around to reflect how they've been deployed of late, as well as McNeilio's crappy spring. The Nats seem to favor Soto in the two-hole, with Turner behind him. Other than that, they've got the returning and reinvigorated Ryan Zimmerman challenging Josh Bell at first, and Alex Avila pushing Yan Gomes behind the plate. They're pretty much dispatching their starting lineup today as they visit the Mets, with the main exception being Avila at catcher, so maybe he is ascendant. Both teams are deploying DHs today, which is just goofy. Play baseball, man. Governor Cuomo just stated that Citi Field and YSIII can open at 20% capacity for opening day. Carter Kieboom has been optioned down by the Nats. This opens things wide up, as the original plan seemed to be to bring Starlin Castro over from third, with one or more of veteran utility workers Jordy Mercer, Hernán Pérez, and/or Josh Harrison looking to take over at second. But Castro has sustained a mild left hammy strain, so it looks like two of those guys will be in the lineup. Or maybe Castro is ready for Thursday, or maybe Kieboom gets recalled. Or perhaps even Ryan Zimmerdude moves back to third. Secondbaseman Luis Garcia, who also seemingly started camp at the top of the depth chart, has been optioned as well. The future will have to wait. Who knows, Baby? But for now, it's Castro's job, and we'll keep a close watch going forward. Castro has switched to 13 this season, which really seems like a faux pas. Castro is a Dominican and he's got a perfectly cromulent Venezuelan infielder in Pérez playing along side of him. Games #2 & 3 on Saturday and Sunday look considerably better: clear, upper 50s & upper 60s Whoda thunk that playing day games in early April in the northeast/mid-atlantic would make such a difference?

Pretty unusual, I think. I assumed it was a day game way back when and took a day off from work. Now I'm just going to have a day of leisure with no game to watch. (I probably won't get a chance to see any, or much, of the first three games. Schaefer voting may be delayed until the early part of next week, by the way.)

I play in a Thursday night darts league at a local bar (we wear masks, it's OK!). I am going to be half watching while I play - but this is OK also because in that setting I will not be able to hear the insipid ESPN broadcast team. Just visuals.

Selfishly, this is convenient for me because I was going to have to miss all three games of this series. Now, at most, I'll miss two. This isn't at all surprising, really. COVID-19 is more prevalent now than it was back in October and most players probably haven't been vaccinated yet, since fewer of them would be in a high-priority group. The Mets are next scheduled to go to Washington the weekend beginning June 18. Would they play six seven-inning games (if this whole series is wiped out) or are they still planning on having teams play home games while they're on the road? If that's the case, the Nationals will be at Citi Field April 23, 24, and 25.

That'd encourage too many people to lie about close contact. The Nats can probably field a negative-tested team, but some of those may develop symptoms/positive tests tomorrow or the next day. i think the issue is the people that were around the positive test were flying with the whole team, so the whole team is potentially exposed? It'd be nice if MLB was clear on what the different possibilities are, sounds like Saturday is if those contacts are negative, but the original contacts are still Q'd? But if someone tests positive the whole series is basically scrapped. I just hate that the Mets are just sitting around. Find them some vax appointments! Any potential symptoms for the shot will be done by Saturday

Lying wouldn't make much sense. If done right, the consequences for lying should be far beyond the consequences for telling the truth, which should just be sitting out a day or two until you've been cleared. Really, none of this makes much sense. They've delayed the start of the minor league season just so they can have some fresh-out-the-package players ready in the wings in case there is an infection. I'm sure we'll find out more, but I'm not seeing where the system broke down, and I don't want to speculate.

According to the MLB story, Mets players have been told to prepare as though the Saturday 4:05 PM game will be played. I think if they're wiling to play one game that way they are more likely to just turn it into a 2 game double header at the same start time? That's what makes sense to me anyway. Why fall further behind so early, not knowing how the next weeks will play out.

Nor am I. Last I read was that the Mets are being told they should be "prepared to play" on Saturday (4:00) and that today was canceled due to an "abundance of caution". In the meantime, our non opening day wasn't a total loss as we gained a half-game on both the Braves and Marlins (1-0 losers to TBR) and deGrom didn't have to pitch in 35-40 degree weather. OK, that's all I got. Oh, and the Yanx lost.

The only reason they're not is because MLB doesn't give 1 crap about the players or them having to sit around and wonder and get cold. That it continues to constantly spread anyway suggests the guidance of "oh, you interacted with the spouse of someone infected? meh, you don't need to worry about anything" was dumb.

Here, If one person of a household tests positive everyone gets tested. There's lots of asymptotic positives - especially with children - that are found due to this. Anyway I'm not an expert in epidemiology or infectious diseases so I won't pretend to be!
