Maybe I'm the last guy to know this, but I'd never have thunk that Whitey Herzog's brief run as Mets coach in 1966 was immortalized by a Bruce Stark cartoon.

I have to admit that I wasn't aware that Stark had been a pen-and-ink sports cartoonist like Bill Gallo. I really only know him from his portraits and caricatures.

During the 70s and probably before as well, Stark and Gallo drew pen and ink sports cartoons for the Dsily News at the same time. The paper would alternate their cartoons.

Perhaps hard to render distinctively at that size, but The White Rat's insignia looks more Yankoid than Metly.
