Martinez was pretty productive in 2018.

More chum for Syracuse, most likely.

DH-depth. Don't give him a glove. Look at his offense WAR and defensive WAR:

Those 2020 numbers, on the other, hand, somehow make Billy Hamilton look more appealing.

Re: Jose, We Shall See

if this were a gauranteed MLB deal wasting a 25 (26?)-man spot it would seem like a blah move - but as a split contract I like the depth it provides at the back end of the 40 man roster

Re: Jose, We Shall See

Mainly what Martinez does is tees up LHPs ... while not being horrible vs RHPs either

283/347/418//765 career vs RHP

307/382/534//915 career vs LHP

Now virtually all of that came from 2017 and 2018 so it remains to be seen what he has left (tho is only 32 y/o) but

even Scott Hairston didn't have those kinds of numbers vs LHPs during his two seasons as a NYM and I remember

his tenure in Queens as a guy seemingly put on this earth for the sole purpose of abusing southpaws.

Re: Jose, We Shall See

He's basically Davis with even less defensive value. Barring an injury to Davis or Alonso, or a last-minute switch to the universal DH, I don't anticipate much of an impact.

Well, two Davises are better than one.

At this moment, he's Syracuse's best bat, so he's more than likely to see some time in the bigs.

Jose will get some MLB time with the first non pitcher Mets injury of the year, like Junish.
