September 24, 2008 - Daniel Murphy over runs the ball, allowing the tying run to score in the Mets 9-6 loss to the Cubs.

A few of us were in bleachers that night, and this was the first time I watched a game from through the fence under the bleachers. I have a picture of Johnny Lunchbucket in absolute misery buried somewhere in my archives from that night...

Perhaps the first ball to get by Murph. Not the last.

DGW was kicking photographic ass all day and night.

I love that shot. You absolutely captured the moment everything changed for me. I'm not joking. That night damaged my fandom in such a way that it was ever the same again.

Picture you're at a karaoke bar. You're listening to the others and having a drink, and then you're just about to the point where you have enough courage to put your name down. Then some asshole gets up and blows away the room. Everyone standing and cheering. Turns out this guy has a recording contract and just happened to be hanging around with his girlfriend.

That's what it's like when DGW posts in the “hey let's post our pictures” thread.

My first picture at Shea Stadium, taken with my beloved Polaroid on September 20, 1986.

That's fun! I sent a friend a picture taken from a Polaroid today for a totally

different subject (reason) but really when was the last time I used Polaroid

in a sentence twice in the same day lately just makes me smile.

A non-Kodak smile. HAH!

At the end of the day DGW deserves his own thread, but we'll work around that!

Somewhere, my dad has pictures from the Beatles concert in 1965. But I'm taking his word for it, and you'll just have to take mine.

I took so many pictures of every nook and cranny of Shea that last year. I found little details that I previously hadn't noticed or paid attention to.

Somewhere (I have to dig it up) I have pics of me, my brothers and my dad in the same left-field Mezzanine corner, taken ~25 years apart (76 and 01, iirc). That's a cool thing.

I was at that 2008 game too. Got there right when the gates opened, walked the whole ballpark, soaking in every second I could. May or may not have cried more than once that night.

I'll have to see what I have - I know we have a few pics from the pre-no hitter "Johan game," game #161 of 2008, his two hit shutout of the Marlins on a torn MCL and with the season on the line. 'Twas Fboy's first in person MLB game.

My son's one-and-only visit to Shea was in the womb. It was also Dog Day at the Park.

It's weird and I knew they were a longshot but I was "all-in" on the 2018 squad showing they had learned something from the disappointment of the 2017 flop, and the game itself was such a wild ride. As I recall up big on an early Delgado salami, losing it, then positioning themselves for a gigantic comeback-- Muffys insane leadoff triple and then bases-loaded, no-outs.

I had already secured playoff tickets. We were sitting with our back to the rising Citifield, so time was running out on all fronts, and that's just weeks before the Madoff/financial crashes awaited.

And to lose all that? It was palpable death ☠️☠️ including the last remnants of my innocent fandom. They didn't deserve it. As I recall they shit the bed again the next night in more traditional Met fashion, failing to mount any kind of attack. End of an era.

Murphy being stranded at third after that leadoff triple is seared in my memory as well. That failure to capitalize was deadly.

I only got to Shea once and I saw Kris Benson and the Pirates handle the Mets and I can't for the life of me remember if I took a photo.

Some of you met LittlestDGW at the first MOFO picnic in 2001 when she was 18 months old...

This is her in 2008 during one of the DynaMet dashes - She graduated college last year.

Boy, time flies doesn't it?

Still searching for a picture from 1999. Lefty Jr is 4 years old, and he's super-excited that he's going to catch a ball. I get box seats from one of our vendors and we're all set, except that when we get there we're right behind home plate and there's a screen over us. No chance of a foul ball. Jr is crushed, because he's built getting a ball as the biggest thing EVER. I go to the concession stand and buy a Mets logo ball. I talk to the people sitting around us quietly, letting them in on the plan. A foul ball is hit straight back and everyone cranes their head to the sky, including him. That's when I bounce the ball onto the steps at the end of the aisle, and say 'look, there it is!!'. He launches himself out of the seat and pounces on it. Everyone in our section cheers. His smile is ear to ear.

One of my best Shea memories, even though I have no idea whether they won or lost or who they played. Still have that ball, though. It reminds me of that gullible little boy who had the best frickin' day of his life.

I'm not sure when this was taken, my wife thinks that Eric was 5 so that would be 1994.
