I'm guessing that they never really thought he came all the way back from injury last season, as he otherwise would be entering the season with a track record to give him as solid a lock on the depth chart as anybody not named Diaz or Familia. (Solid as a Brach!) Now he's getting bumped off the roster while Daniel Zamora remains? Ponderous. Sounds like another guy who is missing the old GM.

There are a lot of guys in the pen that I don't trust enough to justify sinking Brach's cost before Spring Training. And that was true before Lugo got hurt. Now granted, the logic of giving somebody like him (or even Betances) a player option totally escapes me, but the bottom line is that he's already been paid for. Unless somebody is offering us something for him, we might as well see what he has.

I guess the Mets had no choice but to ditch their Brach. But now they could use a little more support. Not good to just leave them dangling like that.
