Lugo Is A No-Go

We haven't had any bad news about the Mets for a week or so. Today we learned that Seth Lugo can't throw for 6 weeks due to a " loose body in his right elbow" that requires surgery.

That elbow was always on borrowed time

This.

We've ben waiting for the other shoe to drop, but I had thought that his partially torn ligament would completely tear.

Removing part of a bone spur wouldn't do anything to address that unless they are prepared to have him miss the entire season.

Looks like bullpen help is now a more urgent priority.

This talks about some options:

And this really interested me:
Former Mets pitching prospect Yusmeiro Petit, who the team sent to the Marlins as part of the Carlos Delgado trade following the 2005 season, had a 1.66 ERA in 2020. Now 36 years old, he's had a nice career as a reliever, and he's been particularly effective in recent years, putting up a 2.74 ERA in 289.0 innings from 2017 through 2020. Throw in the fact that he's averaged more than an inning per appearance, and he seems like a particularly useful option for however long Lugo is out.

Let's start a movement to bring Yusmerio Petit HOME.

We have been Yusmerio-less for far too long.

Lugo was the only reliever I didn't have apprehensions about. (I haven't seen Trevor May pitch, Diaz has as much talent as anybody but I still don't trust him further than I can throw him, and the rest are AAAA at this point.) The good news is he'll likely still play most of the season, and our small army of questionable relievers might sort itself out in the meantime with a couple outperforming median expectations.

I used to have a loose body after a few beers. Lugo has always been a ticking time bomb.
