We forgot to discuss Kevin Pillar, who's apprently signed to a MLB deal. Used to go get it for the Jays

Re: Pillarious

Curious they'd do this after also getting Almora

Re: Pillarious

Yeah, Pillar would seem to spell the end of Guillermo Heredia's opening day dreams, huh. Our 4th and 5th outfielders should be able to run it down, hopefully protecting lots of late-inning wins.

Re: Pillarious

Pillar is also older (32), reportedly not the defensive force he used to be (tho he once was spectacular), and (if he makes the squad) the Mets will be his fifth ML team since the beginning of 2019.

Re: Pillarious

Pillar pretty much played a full season in 2020, 54 games split between the Red Sox and Rockies. 32 years old with something left in the tank.

It puts even more heat on José Martinez. There are seven outfielders right now with MLB contracts, considering that Smitty isn't going to play first. I think Martinez's is a split contract, but he's currently on the roster.

Watch out.

Re: Pillarious

Pillar doesn't walk like at all. May barely crack a .700 OPS.

Also seems to be an “All Lives” guy. So yay.

Re: Pillarious

Pillar mainly signed hoping to meet Jonathan Villar, hoping he'll be the one to round out the power trio that he's starting with Kevin Millar.

Re: Pillarious

Hits lefties better than Almora. Otherwise, if we are aiming to get guys who can go get it, I'd rather we go out and get guys who can STILL go get it, rather than guys we kindasorta recall could go get it back when.

AND he taunted Jason Motte with "f#ggot" repeatedly a few years ago. Bestill my blue-and-orange heart.

Oh good, an "All Lives" gay-hater. Finally, someone we can root for.

Excuse me for a moment please.

Re: Pillarious

Have we now officially employed every mediocre glove first righthanded centerfielder in the league?

Guys who lose their defensive value when they reach 30 generally don't get it back.

Last year's stats were inflated by a high BABIP. He's a good bet to regress.

But I guess if you corner the market on mediocre CFs, it increases the chance of having one who exceeds expectations.

Re: Pillarious

I give credit to Johnny Lunchbucket for not using "Pillar of Strength" in the thread title.

One of the announcements said Almora still has one option left.

Re: Pillarious

Oh great, we gave Pillar a player option. He's still available a week before spring training, and he needed a player option.

Still working on their vetting and hiring practices, I see.
