Judging by the age of the car and the surrounding palm trees, my guess is that it's Michael and Fredo Corleone on their way to see Hyman Roth.

Revolutionary activities are probably causing transportation issues so they needed to share a cab with Big Ed who was on his way to a Mets'

barnstorming game in Havana.



That may not be totally accurate but, absent other evidence, that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Havana fell to Castro on January 1st, 1959. The cab is a 1964 Chevy Bel Air. And in the background is a 1968 Dodge Coronet. So I'd put this picture around 1968 or '69 at the earliest.

I'm guessing 1969 or '70. I've seen that picture before. In fact, it's part of a series of pictures taken on the same day within a short time of each other, maybe about a half dozen or so, of Mets emerging from cabs to the ballpark. I vaguely recall Tug McGraw in one of those shots. There's an excellent chance I have those shots on some external hard drive, but I'm not in the mood to go searching.

Lefty can tell us the make, model and year of this cab. It's the same scene as the Kranepool shot (see the light blue caddy and the horse trailer in the background of both shots). Rite-Rate was going with the '64 Impala, a step up from the Yellow Cab '64 Bel Air. So Tug and Gary went first class.

Not NYM related but, speaking of looking leaner, I read a blurb the other day where Vladdy Jr claims to be 40-some lbs lighter as compared to last year. I've not seen before and after shots. Two thoughts: a) he needed it b) what 22 y/o athlete allows themselves to get 40+ pounds overweight I guess the idea that they've always gotten away with it to this point gives them less urgency. Dom to a lesser extent carried extra weight until he decided he better not. Prince Fielder, probably others. If nothing else it gives them a good entry in the 'Best Shape of My Life' contest seemingly held each Spring
