Martinez is hurt b/c he flubbed a grounder, stumbled to his left, and the disinterested, overpaid, umpire who was flat-footed and not watching the game, failed to move. Robot umps/lasers at every position, please.

I'm pretty sure Johan through his 2-0 complete game shutout against the Marlins (2008, game 161) on a torn MCL as well.

What a bunch of babies these current players are.

What ever happened to "just rub some tobacco juice on it and get out there and play?

But now that I think of it, what ever happened to tobacco juice in baseball?

Is it outlawed formally?

Not a sore arm here, per se, but soreness is in play.

I think that "competition" was Lucco's to lose. But yeah, if this injury is as some are reporting, it's Peterson who gets his head above water.

Others besides Moto vying to get into that discussion include Mike Montgomery, Jerad Eickhoff, Corey Oswalt, Harol Gonzalez, and Yennsy Diaz.

NEW YORK METS NAMES THERABODY AN OFFICIAL RECOVERY AND WELLNESS TECHNOLOGY PARTNER

FLUSHING, N.Y., April 27, 2021 – The New York Mets today announced that they have selected Therabody™, the innovator in tech wellness and the creators of percussive therapy, as an official recovery and wellness technology partner. The Mets will be integrating Therabody's percussive massage therapy device Theragun®, pneumatic compression device RecoveryAir, and its industry-leading research and education into the team's programming to enhance overall player and team performance.

“Therabody products have been a welcome addition to our player's preparation and recovery routines,” says Jim Cavallini, Mets Director of Performance and Sports Science. “The quality of the products as well as their range of applications have made for a quick integration into our daily practices.”

Committed to innovation, technology, and research and development, Therabody's ecosystem of wellness solutions are trusted by professional athletes and sports teams worldwide. Through this partnership, Therabody will provide the Mets with effective training and recovery devices and protocols.

“I am thrilled to be partnering with the New York Mets,” explains Dr. Jason Wersland, Founder and Chief Wellness Officer of Therabody. “We are looking forward to supporting the Mets in ensuring that their players not only use the best-in-class training and recovery solutions that we develop, but that they also have access to the most innovative research and methodology to help them play their best every time they step onto the field.”

Therabody will build a custom section in the dugout for Mets players to use devices -- such as the Theragun PRO and Wave Roller -- during games and practices, and will provide custom carts of devices in the bullpen. Therabody recently announced the launch of RecoveryAir, its clinical pneumatic compression device, which will also be integrated into the team's recovery routine. Additionally, Therabody will enroll the Mets' players, coaches and medical experts in Therabody University, the company's education division, on ways to effectively take care of themselves and optimize the benefits of Therabody's devices and solutions.

Thor pitched four one-hit innings in his first rehab start for St.Lucie (low A) today.

Unfortunately, top catching prospect Francisco Alvarez was benched, probably because he was only hitting .450.

Wouldn't it have been nice for Alvarez to catch him, to enhance his familiarity with a major league pitcher's thought process when facing a hitter?

Terrible decision, IMO, for whoever made it.

Looking at the state of the current catching situation, why wouldn't you want him to develop as quickly as possible?

Don't you think this would help his development?

J.D. Davis is playing 1B for Syracuse tonight, not 3B or LF, I guess so w/Pete out Villar can stay at 3B and Dom can stay in LF. J.D. has 2 errors already. https://www.milb.com/gameday/ironpigs-vs-mets/2021/05/22/646306#game_state=live,game_tab=,game=646306

Can someone help me understand why JD would play 1B when Dom is a "plus" fielder at 1B and JD is new to the position? JD is better at 3B than 1B, Dom is better at 1B than LF, and Villar seems to be the same at 2d or 3d so they are doing this because playing Dom at 1B and JD at 3d would mean that Moe, Larry and Johneshwy are the OF'ers (which is awful) and/or to keep Peraza/Tovar in the lineup at 2B. Is that it?

Because Dom Smith is due to get hurt this week...

In all seriousness. I don't get how we've managed a situation where when Pete Alonso is out and Dom isn't playing all the innings at first. The sequence where he was moved out of 1st because Tovar came in boggles the mind.

Tovar and Gsellman in on Double Switch

Tovar to 2nd

Villar to 3rd

Drury to 1st

Dom to LF

Maybin to RF

Brandon Drury has STARTED 102 in the OF in the majors

He has STARTED 15 at 1st in the majors

Tovar has played 51 games at 3rd in the minors.

So if you ARE resistant wouldn't you just put Tovar at 3rd and Drury in Right.

....

I know it's hard to keep on top of the all the moving parts, but jeez.

For all I know, Seager to the Mets will happen, but @toogooden17, cited in the above link, is doing what amounts to a brilliant performance art piece this entire season, acting the part of “Mets beat reporter for the Washington Examiner” on Twitter and letting people believe it. It started under the pretense that if he posted lineups and injury updates seconds after Anthony DiComo, et al, that was enough to make him (or anybody) a Mets beat reporter. It's kind of taken on a life of its own since.

So basically on the last 48 hours it's: Lucchesi (probably forever), Gsellman, Stroman, plus maybe Villar and maybe Nido.

That's about our standard pace for '21

Betances out for season — shoulder surgery.

Opposing batters have been offering to drive him to the ballpark, just to make sure he gets there.

I think his 19.64 ERA in his rehab appearances might have something to do with that.

Of course he does, if only because one of the baseball "experts" (ESPN? SNY? I forget) suggested Szapucki would be the kind of bait necessary to get Kris Bryant.

More seriously, the 2021–2022 free agent class, at this moment, looks pretty incredible.

I would be careful with Stroman. Small sample size but he is on the list of pitchers not pitching as well since the crackdown on sticky stuff

Guess not. This was posted about an hour ago.

Manager Luis Rojas said Saturday it's unclear when deGrom (forearm) will begin throwing bullpens, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

The righty has been playing catch and receiving treatment for his sore forearm, but he doesn't appear particularly close to continuing his throwing progression. Additional information about deGrom and when he might return from the injured list should become available in the next week or so. At this rate, his absence may be long enough that a rehab.assignment will be necessary.

But name the seven anyways, if youse wanna.

_______

Meanwhile, I was surfing for new news on deGrom which I couldn't find. I still think that the Mets aren't being as forthright as they could be about this situation, which is what I thought at the beginning, when I first heard that deGrom's start was being pushed back just one day so that he could face more division rivals. Yeah, right. The other day, Rojas said that deGrom threw off the mound and felt good. But when Rojas was asked how many pitches deGrom threw in that session, Rojas said that "he didn't know". Yeah, right, again. I'm hunching that deGrom won't be back until around Labor Day, at the earliest. I hope I'm overshooting deGrom's return.

the goal for deGrom has to be "ready for the playoffs" at this point. Granted, that's very much best case at this point.

A reminder that the MILB season doesn't end until 10/3, so there's at least places he get face live batters and rehab. I'm actually surprised by the news today, I thought they'd play mum and he'd try to fight through it in order to make it back this season. Unless the "improving" line is setting it up for him to do just that in two weeks.
