The team has also made its first offer to Michael Conforto, sources said. Those talks are ongoing but no deal is close.

Fortunately, the organization can do more than one thing at a time. Negotiations are organic and they can frequently set their own schedules. I mean, I don't really think Governor Christie was a higher priority than either of these two.
