How old is my appliance???

My Kenmore washing machine (apparently manufactured by Whirlpool) is on its last legs. I found that it would cost over $300 to repair it and less than $600 to replace it, so I'm replacing it.

But I wondered how long we had had it. And I found this site: http://www.appliance411.com/service/date-code.php

You enter the manufacturer, the appliance type, the model number, and the serial number and BOOM! It tells you how old the appliance is.

My washing machine search had a bit of a weird result:

Brand: Whirlpool

Type: Washing Machine

Country: USA

Model: 11020022013

Serial: C24623539

Note! This product could have been manufactured on multiple dates. Personal assistance may be needed to date the product more accurately.

According to the serial number this product may have been manufactured in Clyde, OH, November of 1972 or 1982 or 2012.

I know it's not from 1972 or 1982, so that leaves 2012.

We just replaced the dryer shared by our condo. Nobody knew how old it was, but as the longest-term residents of the condo, we knew it was older than the 13 years we've lived here. I wish I'd known this trick before we got rid of it because I was curious just how old it was. But our new dryer is really fancy and I kind of love it, which I think is a sign of middle-age.

But how does one go about locating the serial number on their liver?

I'd like to have some kind of heads-up as to when that particular appliance is likely to start breaking down.

Garage Kenmore fridge comes in at 1981. It looks like hell but it takes

a licking and keeps on ticking. Considering it's been 'outside' the last ten

years in an annual temperature range of 5-115° I'd say that's pretty cool.

(of course, now it's gonna crap the bed over the weekend)
