Interesting.. With the Mets trailing the Marlins 1-0 in the bottom of the third, ESPN's win probability gives the Mets a 63.8% chance of winning the game. Must be the deGrom factor.

The analysis that was used to start Pillar rather than Dom on Opening Day (righty v lefty) should have been used today to sit Conforto's sorry ass down. On 2-0, why did Lindor take that fat pitch? Gary said that he was waiting for a strike after 6 straight balls but Keith disagreed. Lindor is too good a pitcher to let one go by on the chance that there will be another ball. Rogers then threw a beauty to even the count.

It's only been five games, but outside of Nimmo this lineup is not very inspiring. More leadoff doubles wasted, shitty RISP, called third strikes, rinse, repeat, puke.

That's how you recover after Thursday's loss: you don't waste energy by throwing at McNeil or Conforto, you square up when you have the opportunity, you throw tough pitches on 0-2, you get solid relief pitching, and you drive in runners when the opportunity is presented.

Jake deGrom struck out a career-high 14 batters this game. Jake also gave up the first 0-2 count HR of his career. Also, it was only the second time in baseball history that a pitcher struck out 14 batters without giving up a walk and took the loss; James Shields lost to the O's in 2012 while fanning 15 batters without surrendering a walk.

IIRC there was a pitcher named John Cristensen (SP?) who did stuff like that against the Mets. They had a tough time beating him. He once came off the DL (as it was known in those days) threw about 8 shutout innings against them, then went back on the DL.
