Let's Tomahawk Chop Atlanta's All-Star Game

Talks are beginning in baseball circles to strip Atlanta of this year's All-Star Game in light of Georgia's recent enactment of its Jim Crow voter suppression bill.

If baseball means what it says and follows through, almost half of all MLB teams wouldn't merit hosting MLB's All-Star Game what with a slew of voter suppression bills expected to pass in the near future.

Here are the states, in addition to Georgia, that are expected to pass Voter Suppression laws in the near future where Republicans control both the respective state legislatures and Governor's mansion: Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Ohio, Texas and Missouri.

Republicans in both Kansas and Kentucky don't control their Governor's mansions but have veto-proof majorities in their state legislatures. Still, those states don't have MLB teams.

That covers eleven teams, more than a third and almost half of all MLB teams: the Atlanta Braves, Arizona Diamondbacks, Colorado Rockies, Miami Marlins, Tampa Bay Rays, Cincinnati Reds, Cleveland Whatevers, Houston Astros, Texas Rangers, Kansas City Royals and St. Louis Cardinals.

This definitely should happen and if Manfred doesn't somehow figure this out in his tiny brain then Tony Clark has to clearly and slowly tell him that unless the Game is moved elsewhere then the players will not participate.

Colorado has a Democratic governor and a Democratic-controlled legislature.

I hope this happens. Not sure yet what the likelihood is; we'll have to see how the story develops.

An early litmus test will be the Masters Tournament, which is coming up much sooner than the All-Star Game.

Of course. Both of its US Senators are also Dems. I'm going senile, I think, sometimes.

I wonder if Georgia even cares. They'd rather have a Republican president and governor than an all star game, I'd bet.

And two more GOP US Senators.

My understanding is that the MLB is a league where management is sometimes (perhaps more than sometimes) ahead of the union with regard to the sport's social positioning.

And while they're at it, they should remove the water fountains from the Braves home and road dugouts and make it a crime for anyone to give Braves players water during a game.

I didn't say that Manfred wouldn't do it, I just insulted his mental capacity. I'm sure he has to check with Coca-Cola and the MLB "Partners" first.

MLB's gotta decide this matter very quickly. The new host team's gonna need time to prepare and there ain't much time as it is.

Move it and have Stacey Abrams throw out the 1st pitch.
