Extending deGrom

Shmandy Martino with the scoop that while folks are sweating Lindor, Conforto, and Syndergaard, the Mets engaged in some preliminary talks on an extension with Jacob deGrom this offseason.

JdG has an opt-out after the 2022 season, so his side holds all the cards. If his arm blows up, he's got security, but if it doesn't, the Mets don't. deGrom had been represented by CAA (the agency Brodie VW founded) but is now with VC Sports Group, who played serious hardball negotiating Mookie Betts' deal. Talks are expected to be shelved until next offseason, but look for them to be heated.

Sherman tosses a turd into the punchbowl.

More $ stuff:
Financially, he does not have a state-of-the-art contract, considering all the deferrals in it. But, no matter how it is dispensed, deGrom is still to earn $33.5 million this year and the same amount next year, after which he can opt out to seek further riches, or just live with another $30.5 million in 2023 and potentially $32.5 million in 2024 if the Mets pick up an option.

He is always brutally correct. And it hurts.

If Jacob deGrom plays for any team other than the Mets I will throw up non-stop until he retires.

Re: Extending deGrom

I wonder if locking in deGrom beyond 2022 hasn't passed locking in Conforto and/or Syndergaard beyond 2021 on the priority list.

If it could, it would likely retroactively be made a higher priority than the Lindor extension too.

Extending deGrom — from Hasbro!

Extending deGrom can now be stretched for nine while innings and won't break!

What if his arm falls off. He's not a kid.

He gets another round of imaging in three weeks, May 17,

So if he can start throwing then he would be ready for action late or about 7/1 ish with no setbacks.

That's no setbacks.

Re: Extending deGrom

I still bet he doesn't throw a major league pitch this season. There'll be some rehab starts and he'll get shut down for one reason or another. Rinse and repeat.

Or two innings in late September, like Syndergaard last year.

Wow, I thought I was the only pessimist regarding expectations for DeGrom. I expect whatever innings the Mets get from DeGrom this season will be of elite quality, but I just don't expect those innings to be very numerous.

Well, this explains a lot. Jacob is going to be this year's Hallmark baseball ornament. I swear, whoever gets picked for a Hallmark ornament is cursed. Last year, for example, it was Ronald Acuna Jr.

I guess that explains Lori Louglin's trubbles.

You give a part of your soul to Hallmark, it doesn't come back you to the same.

You hang it up and the arm falls off.
