Carlos Beltran - Zack Wheeler - Isaiah Green (compensation pick for Wheeler leaving) - Francisco Lindor.

Valid?

I think there's Beltranian DNA in Lindor, yeah. Far from the lion's share, but it's there.

The Beltran contract is still alive.

Re: Trade Chains

Intervening drafts shouldn't count.

Side note: is the Tim Bogar trade chain now the longest-ever in history?

Re: Trade Chains

If a draft pick is an asset gained in compensation for a player, I can't see why that doesn't count. It's continuing returns on the investment.

Re: Trade Chains

I think I traced the Rick Anderson draft pick of 1978 to May 2005.

Maybe further, I dunno.

Re: Trade Chains

I've got the Anderson chain ending at the end of 2004 when McEwing became a free agent, but could be missing a branch.

I think Bogar (1987 draft pick to present) overtook Anderson if I am looking at it right.

Re: Trade Chains

Rick Anderson ➽ David Cone ➽ Ryan Thompson ➽ Mark Clark ➽ Turk Wendell ➽ Bruce Chen ➽ Scott Strickland gets us to the summer of 2005, but that's as far as I can take it.

I had forgotten that Strickland was with the Mets until 2005 despite having not pitched since 2003.

Yeah, that's not really fair of me. If he's not on the field, he's not bringing even theoretical returns.

Maybe my favorite Fleetwood Mac song and this is a good version.

McEwing was released in Spring Training 2005.

“Do draft picks count in a trade chain?” is a Talmudic-level question.

Yeah, that's a strong version. This is also one of my favorites from the Lindsey/Stevie era -- though I'd rank a whole nother set of faves from the Peter Green years and yet another batch from the Bob Welch era.
