Ex-Mets, like Kate Vice Presidents, deserve their own thread.

Re: Neil Walker Retires

Thirty-three Mets homers in only 186 games.

Did his American duty by playing poorly for the Yankees at the end of his career.

Has to be the most homers by a Met who never hit one in September.

Always had five o'clock shadow. Not a bad player and good second prize in the Zobrist sweeps.

I thought he was a second prize for losing Murphy.

Well yeah. But losing Muffy was a choice they pretty much chose to make

Yeah, I think they made only slightest feint at re-signing him beyond the qualifying offer.

I guess they were jonesing for some Anthony Kay.

And maybe the fewest RBI for someone who hit 23.

I think I nominated him for my made-up Brook Jacoby (32 HR, 69 RBI) Award.

Re: Neil Walker Retires

You guys can have your Anthony Home Recker. Neil Walker was (is) an objectively handsome man.

We were fortunate to get him for Niese. I don't remember who the Pittsburgh GM was at the time but he was a buffoon. Always seemed to in control. I liked him.

When we visited Pittsburgh it was a beautiful Friday night. The Pirates honored him and he responded by going deep. deGrom pitched a beauty. Just a perfect night.

Neil may have been the only Met to appear on an episode of American Masters. He's seen greeting Itzhak Perlman prior to Perlman playing the national anthem as the 2016 Subway Series is getting underway. Perlman compliments him on the homer he hit to beat the Rockies the day before.

Played a supporting role (dressed in 1986 piping) in the Oscar-nominated short-subject documentary Our Ass Is in the Jackpot.
