A 7:10 first pitch and a DH in the lineup. GKR theorizing that we'd see Dom Smith at 1B at least once and perhaps twice in this series, with the Piss Missile as the DH.

Luis Rojas is going to cite something about Alonso's improved defense, and repetitions or something, and mostly play Alonso at first, I'd wager on this.

I'll put the over/under for Alonso at 1B at 2.



On the over side, The Mets have 3 non-Smith outfielders on the roster and one of theme is Khalil Lee. If you have Smith play first base, that means Lee in the OF.



Of course, on the under side, if you play Smith in OF and not Lee, who are you DHing? Peraza? He had a good game today though, so maybe he gets some playing time. Or Mazeika.



Or they make a roster move. Nimmo is eligible but it sounds like he's gonna get some rehab games first, but he could still come back by Sunday too.

Dom worked out at 1B on Tuesday. I think that Pete will get at least one game as the DH. If Nimmo comes back he can play LF with Pillar in CF and Dom at 1B. The Mets flew to TB today, 2 days early. Meanwhile, the Rays have another game tomorrow night against the MFYs. I hope that it goes well past 10 innings and the Rays' 'pen is used even more than usual.

Is Nimmo back this weekend? Right now they have no real OF backups except Khalil Lee. So that explains Dom in left.

Well, McNoodle has played more left, and more outfield overall, than Smitty — and he's played better outfield than Smith — but I imagine they want to avoid deploying him in high gear if they can help it.

Nobody should be getting away with the shift, but less than nobody should be able to get away with it against Lindor. He's got the wheels to lay down a bunt and run to first backwards.

I pay pretty-- read: VERY-- close attention to hitters around baseball, mostly owing to fantasy and such. Every time I see a Rays lineup, they're guaranteed to have at least one hitter in there I have literally never heard of. Padlo is that guy tonight.

Bullpen can't put up perfect innings indefinitely, I reckon. Still, losing is dumb. WPIX games are dumber -- I have basically no local recourse to watch any Mets between now and Monday night.
