The Mets go for a three-game sweep against the Atlanta Braves. Game time is 7:20. The Mets will send David Peterson (LHP) against Charlie Morton (RHP). Ouch. Anyhow, the curve that Morton is throwing is tough on everybody, but it seems utterly unfair to Khalil Lee.

Mets a little lucky there. Sandoval hit a bases loaded bullet to end the inning. That would have pretty much put the game out of reach if it hadn't been right at Villar.

If they're pinch hitting Nido now, it's sort of a no-brainer to pinch-run for McCann now. I mean, they're not a lot of need for speed when you're on third with two out, but you can score on a ball in the dirt.

The Mets play the shift and leave the entire right side open for Contreras. So the Mets pitch him fastballs away. What a surprise, he hits a perfect double play ball right where the second baseman would normally be. Live by the shift, die by the shift.

Well, we ran out of luck. Or, perhaps more true, we McCann out of luck. My first question to Alou is how we let the game end without Alonso getting a swing. Get him in there instead of McCann, maybe the breaking pitches start bouncing.

Tough loss. McCann needs to sit or something, why is he still healthy when almost no one else is? I wonder if May was able to pitch if they had a lead then should he have started the 8th in lieu of Loup?

With a runner on 3B and less than 2 out, Maz would have found a way. McCann couldn't find a way with Google Maps.

(I suspect Villar was to be something like our Sandoval-equivalent-- a backup infielder, yes, but also a hopeful lightning-in-a-bottle veteran acquisition. Jose Martinez, too.) And, yeah, Morton's upgraded significantly since we used to see him with the Blackbeards... but then, he has spent the last four seasons in modern-pitcher finishing school (HOU, TB).
