Obvious typo in your post, kcmets. You must have meant 1.80, probably 2.80 for deGrom's ERA. Did you hear ESPN's crew last night opine that deGrom cannot possibly break Bob Gibson's 1.12 ERA mark? Seemed pretty lame to me--of course, it's unlikely that Jake won't Brake at some point during the season, but they were talking very disrespectfully of his abilities, seems to me. And you know that if he pulls it off, they're going to be all "I knew it all along!"

This is all or part of ESPN's doing as ATL's home game within the same time zone doesn't start until 5:10 b/c they were on the road last night. The ramifications of a Sunday Night game linger and are indeed stupid.

It was a particularly hard hit single to right and Reddick came up gunning. Peraza would have been dead to rights had he been sent. It was a smart call.

Sunday night baseball has been around forever and the timing restrictions are nothing new. The question is why teams are not scheduled for wraparound series on holiday weekends. As an example, the Mets have a 4 game series in Washington on Labor Day weekend; and the 1:00 start on the holiday Monday is better for fans as well as serving as a good getaway day start time.



No reason why the vast majority of teams shouldn't be doing a wraparound series this weekend as well.

For one, he was so big that it was easier for him than most to throw the ball past the runner. For two, he played close to the bag, so a good percentage of what he fielded had him in the vicinity.

That Leyba AB might be one of the stupidest things we'll see for weeks. On the second and third pitches, I'm thinking, "He's got to give him that same pitch but maybe an inch further inside." Anybody else, I'd think, "But that's probably too much of a risk of hitting the guy."

Yet Rojjas let Jake bat in his last half inning. I had a feeling that would happen when they showed May warming up. Rojas didn't wanna stretch the bench on a pinch hitter and had confidence in deGrom's bat.

I think it's clearly part of the thinking.

Reluctance to go over 200 innings these days is one thing, but now you've got the idea of trying to do it when every single pitcher is coming off a season where they threw under 90.

Lance Lynn led both leagues with 84 IP in 2020. JdG tossed 68

Alarmingly SLOW "Blister." My specific deGrom-removal gripe-- outside of the ones already here expressed-- was, if we're doing the half-injury-rehab/half-game management thing, then wouldn't the 7th have been the perfect time for a 2-inning Lugo outing? Low leverage, relaxed environs, conspiracy-nut-dotted crowd.
