This is a really fun team to root for. The irregulars are quite endearing. As an insomniac the start time works for me.

I can usually hack one or two of these late starts ... and then the cumulative effect catches up to me. Five late starts in six days -- MON, TUES, THU, FRI, SAT -- is going to make this a tough week.

Lucchesi next pitches Friday. The odd days around the Baltimore games allow them to both skip Lucchesi and get people and extra day of rest. Unless we have the unlikely event of a San Diego rainout.

It really was interesting to see the entire timbre of this game change with the on-field fracas. I feel like the Mets got played by the lesser team there. Nobody has shared what the substance of the conflict was, and a remote media hasn't yet gotten to the bottom of it, but Josh Rojas more or less admitted he was just trying to get an emotional edge for his team. Done and done. Stroman's outward intensity may make him a choice target for such maneuvering.

Yeah, a lot of problems with the home team's production made the away team's broadcast and the replay reviewers' evidence sub-standard. Gun to my head, I'd guess the game-winning hit was foul, but no way the angle that the crew had provided anything like clear and convincing evidence, and the Met crew did their best to call it, but they were clearly less than 100% sure of what was happening.

Stroman for better or worse appears one of those guys determined to gather motivation by real or imagined aggreivances. If your team was getting owned by him you'd probably try it too

Yup. I've already had a sitdown with Stroman in my head to tell him how every team in the league is going to try this on him now. It didn't go well. And yeah, the home plate ump had a wide-assed strike zone. I guess the game felt kind of minor league all around.

And FWIW, though Stroman didn't talk about it postgame, D-Back Rojas admitted he initiated whatever there was, y'know, because Stroman LOOKED AT HIM, something a totally normal person often does. The thing that gets me about Stroman is that his stuff and location is excellent... but if he's off, it gets HAMMERED. He was off on maybe 4 pitches last night, three in that inning, and one of them was... well. If it wouldn't fuck up his timing too much, I actually think he might be well served to bring back a lot of that Johnny Cueto windup weirdness every now and again, just to put one more thought in hitters' heads.

I'm guessing Mr. Rojas would have had major palpitations if he ever had to face Bob Gibson.

That said, that stare was a major part of Gibson's arsenal, complementing his nasty stuff. If Stroman wants to gaze at hitters, I'm all for it.
