Ticks

Does anyone have any theories as to why nothing seems to be being done about them?

Re: Ticks

Also, I put stuff on my cats; why can't they develop a similar thing for humans?

I get all these ticks and clocks, mixed up with these chicks and tocks.

I mean if you wore a bug spray collar you'd probably do a decent job at repelling ticks. Though maybe anklets are more effective?

Like what ... eradicating them from the face of the earth maybe?

I could get started on it after lunch but it could take a while.

Re: Ticks

FK, start with my yard please.

So since I posted that last night, my hubby and I were doing yard work and notice one of our bush's tips were all curly and we found aphids and DOZENS OF EFFING TICKS stuff in the aphid sticky stuff (you'd think I'd know the word for that) so this stupid bush which is just feet from our swimming pool is infested, just for starters.

FK, you get rid of them (and save the bush) and you have a lifetime pool pass.

My wrath escalates.

Re: Ticks

Ticks usually feed on dead and decaying wood. Didn't think leaves were in their diet so much but perhaps different varieties do indulge.

When the female is ready to lay eggs is when they latch onto a warm blooded animal, preferably a furry one where they can hide (try finding ticks on a Collie some time). There she sucks up some

blood to the point where she blows up to where it looks like a jelly bean with little tiny legs sticking out, but only if the jelly bean was squishy, gray-brown and disgusting looking. The trick is to find

them before that happens. The babies eventually feed off that blood until they can crawl off on their own to find some dead wood to chomp on and start the cycle again.

In general, spray yourself with some bug spray, wear a hat (and spray it) lest they land in your hair (and, yes, I've found them in my hair). Wear long pants where practical and tuck the cuffs

into your socks to prevent them from crawling up your legs ... and stay away from dead wood.

Deer ticks are the lyme disease carrying ones you need to watch out for. They're much smaller than the above-described wood ticks which are closer in size to a flatter version of a lady bug.

Re: Ticks

I learned more about ticks from this post alone than from everything else I've read and watched throughout my entire life, combined.

Re: Ticks

I have deer visiting my yard (and eating my plants) regularly so I'm always on the lookout for them.

Me and ticks go way back.

Re: Ticks

I never really thought of ticks being a yard (plants and bushes) issue but rather a

woods issue where the deer and the ky-yo-tee play. I gave up on that dog liquid

application stuff like Frontline etc because it costs like $700/year and doesn't

work. We're in the woods 2-3 times a day, and just manually inspect before they

get chance to dig in. Kasper's had Lyme's twice, but it's not as bad for dogs and

just a 30 day pill treatment.
