A song only recently recorded but written ten years ago

And one from Loudon Wainwright II for the same occasion thirty years ago

And I'll include the actual videos in case they ever actually work

Re: Eighty

I don't know how "Mozambique" sneaked in there, but that's a nice list.

Re: Eighty

I would devise a very different list but so would most people. "Mozambique" is so hard to figure although it feels like the Blood On the Tracks/Desire crowd is heavily represented (the first record is a masterpiece, the second way overrated IMO). "Where Are You?" from Shadows In the Night one of his Sinatra covers albums also an odd choice as is "Abandoned Love." Tell Me That It Isn't True; Watching the River Flow; One Too Many Mornings; I Believe In You all notable omissions in my view but, again, most people who care would come up with very different lists.

I assumed "Where Are You?" was a typo for "Where Are You Tonight?," which I would have included. I've done my best to ignore those Sinatra albums. It's no knock on the songs, he's just not the person to sing them, no matter how sincerely he tries.

Re: Eighty

I liked DESIRE but certainly didn't want to see every cut from it on this 'Top 80' list.

It could have been worse, the listeners could have included JOEY in their vote.

Re: Eighty

Romance in Durango and Sara also tracks from Desire not on the list. Neither of them should have made it but both are better than Mozambique.

Re: Eighty

I liked Dylan when he and I were both young.

Then I began to not like his stuff as much, and stayed away for years.

But this 80th thread made me listen to some of his songs again. And I still like his earlier songs better, but at least I gave the newer stuff a chance.

When did you start "not liking" Dylan? What do you consider his "earlier songs"?

My favorite Dylan period is what's probably his peak - mid 60s - early electric - Bringing It All Back Home (prolly listened to this album straight through more than a hundred, maybe even two hundred times), Highway 61 Revisited and Blonde on Blonde.

Re: Eighty

I cherry pick songs of his that I like from each of his various periods. I don't necessarily prefer any one specific Bob, but if I had to choose, I'd probably go with the Basement Tapes era stuff (though that's also a function of my unabashed love of the Band).
