Tuesday Night Mets IGT 6/22

Johnny Lunchbucket
Jun 22 2021 08:29 AM

Taking this one in from the field level near the 🍎 in center field. Stroman opposes veteran RHP Charlie Morton in a matchup of 6-game winners.

Morton defeated the Mets just over a month ago in Atlanta, holding them to 2 hits over 6, although the Mets batted Maybin 3rd in that one so all bets are off.

Stro has yet to face ATL but really hasn't had a poor game yet

I keep getting fooled by Yennsy. Everytime I see him, I realizing that he's bigger than I expect a Yennsy to be.

That said, he doesn't look like he loosened up very thoroughly.

And when you consider that we haven't scored more than three runs in like 20 straight games now (number might not be entirely accurate) we're in deep doo-doo here (or is it deep du-du?)

We also don't have, y'know, one of those hit things yet

Strange that we're in the seventh inning, and the only runs in the game were set up by using the shift.

Stranger that Morton has utterly owned them all night. They've consistent swung at balls and looked at strikes.

Gary has been feeding that concept to K & R all season so it's not surprising to hear him repeat it.

The toughest part is that the "blue" is a lot closer to Miami teal than New York royal.

We have eight runs in the last 38 (and 2/3) innings.

Yeah, it is impossible.

Re: Tuesday Night Mets IGT 6/22

Not really yielding or resigning anything, it is what it is. If people feel Howie, Gary, et al

should be more proactively against the hideousness they should contact them. They're

easy enough to reach. I'm sure most here would agree that deep down the two of them

find the looming DH, the 7-inning games, runners on second in extras and minimums

for relievers quite frustrating and ruinous to the game. I'm probably forgetting a half

dozen other things.

Re: Tuesday Night Mets IGT 6/22

Was watching a Braves game recently -- Chip Carey, Jeff Francouer, Tom Glavine -- when the 7-inning topic came up, and both Francouer and Glavine said the same thing:

'would have hated it as a player, love it as an announcer' ... and neither of them is anywhere near as old and curmudgeonly as Keith.

And even Gary said he likes the "drama" of the 7-inning DH's. He's not so keen on the Xtra rules or the DH but if main-streamers like him are on board for L.L. DH's (already

used throughout the minors) then there's probably not a lot of insider opposition.

And I'll get up on my soap box once again to say how this whole thing is just another manifestation of them now being able to get games completed in under 3 hours. Get

those things back to even within shouting distance of 2-1/2 and many of these issues go away.

I notice for this game that the PotG ballot attempts to include Jerad Eickoff's non-existent pitching line while excluding his best-on-the-team batting line.

Yes. That's something that happens when pitchers are in the game but don't actually pitch.
