You guys may have seen this but just nightmarish news for Howard Johnson, whose 2-year-old grandson was accidentally backed over by a riding mower driven by his son. He's raising funds on the Twitter, kid lost his foot. Can you imagine that hell as a dad or a dad of a dad? Jeez

Gawd that's horrible. I was scared while reading that it was going to be even worse than losing a foot.

Lots of Mets fam helping out on the gofundme, including Straw, Keith, Gary Cohen and Jay Horowitz. Sandy Carter is there, too, and I see a Jocelyn Ojeda (wonder if she's fam to Bobby).

Just horrifying. Is there a non-twitter link someone can post to gofundme?

Son Glen was actually drafted by the Mets but went to college instead. He was a switch-hitting infielder like his dad, and played some indy ball after graduation. Howard had been disciplined by the Mets in his coaching days for sneaking away from his minor league assignments to watch Glen play prep ball.

I know such fundraisers are as much about solidarity as money, but it's a crazy country where we have to pass the hat to pay for an All-Star's grandson being treated for a severed foot.

They've surpassed the $75K goal.

I also thought about this. FWIW, Hojo made about $13M from baseball, plus coaching money, but retired 26 years ago. Who knows what the family money situation is, though. At least it looks like the med bills will get paid.

Yeah, I felt like an ass writing it. I'm frustrated with our healthcare situation.

It might be the worst among the most advanced nations/economies.

It is unequivocally the worst among the most advanced nations/economies. By design.

Yeah. You know what? I knew that. But I gave myself some wiggle room just in case. Edgy's post made me think hard about Hojo's family needing a cyber-hand. The thing is, you never really know about a family's finances. Every family's financial circumstances really is a situation unto itself.

Anyways, after the GOP steals the next presidential election and goes all fascist, they'll take away whatever health benefits we do have. (Actually, I think the GOP is trending towards totalitarianism).

It just seemed that GoFundMe was an outlet for people trying to assemble startup funds for a dream project, and now I almost exclusively hear it invoked for family medical emergencies.
