Check your closets and report here NOW!!! Collectible/memorabilia optional

but really we're looking for what you wear to represent in public.

Authentic road grey, the only 'real' jersey I own, muy costoso iirc.

Snow white Mets, pretty real looking but probably a knockoff.

Orange batting practice, remember those? Actually, it might be real.

Pinstripe Mets, pretty real looking, probably a knockoff though.

Black road cheapy, I like it, looks good on camera when I rob gas stations

All my jerseys are numberless. "I am not a number, I am a free man!"

Re: ===**-->>Mets Jersey Check<<--**===

I don't have any jerseys, but I do have four caps. The traditional blue with orange insignia (although I don't currently know its whereabouts), the blue with the orange brim, the blue with the grey insignia, and black with a blue brim. When I go on vacation (which is something I used to do) I wear the cap with the grey NY because it's a "road cap".

Re: ===**-->>Mets Jersey Check<<--**===

I have one jersey. No name or number on the back. Pretty classic road grey button down, but with some black drop-shadowing that I just have to offer up to God.

The velcro above the top button to keep the neck closed for some reason makes me feel really professional.

I have a half a dozen hats. But my two rules are

(1) to never wear more than one piece of Mets-branded attire in public;

(2) except at the ballpark, where you should never wear more than two-pieces of Mets-branded attire.

It's goodish to show solidarity and and fidelity, but you don't want to suggest to the outer world that you're under the delusion that you could be called into action at any moment.

Re: ===**-->>Mets Jersey Check<<--**===

Black cap, blue cap - both with classic NY blue and orange logo. I also have a Brooklyn Cyclones and a Columbia Bombers cap.

The only jersey I own is an original Jackie Robinson Brooklyn Dodger pinstripe I got many years ago and never wear.

But I do wear a black golf shirt with a Mets encircled logo on the left front and Mets color trim. My wife and I have T-shirts we have worn to games, one orange and one blue. (no logos)

I probably wear the Cyclones cap more than any other piece of garb I mentioned.

I once wore the Columbia cap to the flea market where I've met Kase, and a dumb MFY fan (sorry for the redundancy) asked me if it was a Columbus Clippers cap (the AAA MFY affiliate at the time). I told him in very condescending manner that it wasn't. It was the highlight of my day.

Minor league Mets lids I have floating around somewhere include Tidewater/Norfolk, Binghamton, Hagerstown, Kingsport, and (I think, somewheres) Little Falls.

Really, I'm not sure where any of them are, but given a chance, I can probably find each of them with the LF exception. That one may be lost to history.

Re: ===**-->>Mets Jersey Check<<--**===

I appreciated the Little Falls hat, because the hat insignia, like all the Mets uniform fonts, was invented just for the team's purposes.

(Actually, that's not entirely true. The hat insignia was a font invented just for the Giants' purposes.)

What makes that cool is that anybody who wants to use those fonts to spell out anything besides "NY," "New York," or "Mets," has to create the lettering on their own, backward engineering to try to come up with a "K" (for instance) that is consistent with the Mets "N." I'm sure more than a few have tried to do the whole alphabet in those fonts, but nothing official has been produced, or at least, nothing the team has validated as official and authentic.

At least, not that I've seen.

And so, various pro and amateur graphic designers have done their best on their own, with varying levels of success. (Although, it would be great if the Mets released their own definitive versions.)

Little Falls version is neither a great nor a terrible attempt — kudos for making the bottom of the L do double-duty as the middle lash on the F — but at the same time, it comes out as only one or two quick strokes short of a swastika.

Re: ===**-->>Mets Jersey Check<<--**===

A page titled [url]New York Mets Font suggests that the nearest thing to a Mets insignia font is one called Lynchburg. (Coincidence? Maybe?)

It also mentions a couple of potential fonts for the Mets script from the logo and the uniforms. There's Spills Base and Buffalo Nickel (Coincidence? Maybe?)

None of these fonts are an exact match. Lynchburg would be better if the letters were of a uniform thickness, but I suppose it could be used as a starting point for a Mets insignia font.

The only NYM article of clothing I own is a Blue/Orange, velcro-closure visor which

a) I have no idea how I came into possession of such a thing (probably an in-game give-away although, if so, I don't remember it)

and

b) I never wear seeing as how I'm not a 'hat guy'

So it's on a shelf and gets dusted off every once in a while. But if I ever need to grab a lid for some reason it'll definitely be my go-to choice.

Two traditional blue-and-orange caps. I must have forgotten I had one already.

And buried away somewhere, my Little League jersey. My league used major league team names, and I was on the Mets. By good luck, not choice. Blue sleeves and collar, skyline logo on the front, hardware store logo on the back.

I inherited a 1999 road-grey we gave to my dad on his 70th birthday #70, natch. I surrendered it to my brother when he got me a pinstriped Seaver 41 for my birthday one year.

When I was in my 20s I thought I might collect all team jerseys but I ran out of money and realized the whole pursuit was kinda stupid, there really wasn't any occasion where wearing a baseball jersey was appropriate. But I still have a Tigers home white and a pinstripe-era Expos jersey somewhere.

I wear my (mid-00s, IIRC?) road gray jersey exclusively, although I do have a 1993 pinstripe jersey with the swoosh which I should probably update. I also have two Rochester Red Wings jerseys (a home with #17 on it, an unnumbered away) and a Stony Brook gamer that I got from our coach when they updated their uniforms several years ago.

And way more hats than I probably should, but the only Mets ones in regular rotation are the traditional blue and orange one and a red and white one with a Santa hat on the NY that gets pulled out of the bottom of the bin every December.

I have a jersey in the closet but it doesn't get much wear. It's too heavy. I wear lots and lots of Mets tees though. Most of them just say Mets in the script across the chest, with some variations on the blue and orange colors. A few gray ones, also, with the logo on them.

Re: ===**-->>Mets Jersey Check<<--**===

I wouldn't wear a team jersey. But I do look covetously sometimes at the Ebbets Field Flannels historical jerseys and wonder if it's worth spending $200 on a Federal League 1914 St. Louis Terriers home jersey, or an 1895 Cleveland Spiders road jersey. Probably not. One thing I would definitely wear, if anyone made it and if I could justify the $500 it would probably cost, is one of those cardigans that players used to wear in the early twentieth century instead of jackets. Those were some beautiful sweaters.

I have 5:

Home and away official jersey's from Fantasy Camp, number 17. My last name is on them so I'd never wear them to a game (Hey H****n, you aren't Keith Hernandez!");

A modest blue jersey that I bought at an Outlet store; it's similar to what they wear in Spring Training;

A "1969 World Championship" shirt/jersey that was a giveaway in 2019; and,

A jersey replica that was on sale in March as it was made by the previous manufacturer.

I have enough game used and authentic jerseys that I can't keep track of them anymore. I rarely wear them these days, except maybe to Citi Field, where I'm pretty sure I've worn one to the game for like the last 10 years worth of games I've been to.

I think that my favorite is a 1962 Marv Throneberry home Mets jersey that I bought from Mitchell & Ness more than 25 years ago. Back then, M&N was a relatively unknown mom & pop operation. They didn't sell a Throneberry, or any '62 Mets jerseys, for that matter. But they did sell 1965 Stengel and Spahn Mets jerseys with the World's Fair patch (and Mets skyline logo patch, too - natch). But I wanted a Throneberry. So I asked if they could sell me their '65 Spahn. Only take off all the patches. And then instead of #21, make it #2. And no # on the front of the jersey. They agreed. And so voila, a '62 Throneberry!

I doubt they'd do that today. They're too goddamn big, now.

Re: ===**-->>Mets Jersey Check<<--**===

I used to be into collecting jerseys when it was affordable – and it is far from affordable these days. But back in the late 1980s and early 1990s I'd find authentic versions on sale and scour ads in the back of Baseball America and Sports Collectors Digest for teams and dealers selling game-used jerseys.

There was a dealer who would be at the National Sports Collectors Conventions and would buy entire team sets. They'd make money on the stars and sell the others pretty reasonably. They had a catalog, too. I would look for coaches and cup-of-coffee kinds of players in my size because I liked to wear them.

I would also make a pilgrimage to Gerry Cosby's stores, or send my parents there for Christmas or birthday gifts. If I remember, you could get an authentic back then for about $50 or so.

When I saw the Mets in Miami this year, the Marlins were selling City Collection jerseys for more than $400. That's just insane. Who is paying that? It seems like the retail process started pumping up when Russell took over, and then jumped over the moon.

My first Mets jersey was a 1985 home, which I got for Christmas that year and added the anniversary patch the next year. It remains the Best Present Ever.

My parents later moved to a state with a uniform catalog's outlet store, I'd get bargain jerseys there, too.

The collection includes my pride and joy, a Mitchell and Ness 1969 Seaver home flannel. Again, this was before the prices on these things became ridiculous. I was wearing it at a late 1980s card show where members of the 1962 team were signing. Clem Labine said, "Hey, you're wearing my jersey."

A 2009 Freddy Garcia game-worn snow white. Well, sort of. He was at spring training that year. My dad spun the prize wheel at a St. Lucie Mets game and won the jersey as a grand prize! They wore blue spring jerseys, so this is probably “photo day worn.”

Black road jersey, a Russell, with Robin Ventura's name on the back. I got it on clearance because it had a small hole, which my wife mended for me!

A Mercury Mets Russell authentic.

A black home Santana Majestic authentic, which I found on sale somewhere. Might be the last one I've purchased.

A 1993 Majestic authentic home pinstripes with Eddie Murray's name on the back.

A 1992 Majestic authentic home pinstripes with Eddie Murray's name on the back.

A 1987 Rawlings authentic road with the New York script and no name or number.

A 1988 Rawlings authentic road with the racing stripes and block New York.

A 1983 Russell authentic road with the script New York with Bonilla on the back – an outlet store find! I wore this to a St. Lucie game and Shawn Abner gave me grief for it. He was sitting in the stands with some minor leaguers. After the grief he was friendly enough and we all chatted. When he went to get another beer, one of the minor leaguers said, “Can you believe they wasted a No. 1 pick on that guy?”

A Sand Knit blue batting practice jersey from the mid-1980s, which was my second jersey! A Cosby's purchase.

A game-worn Mel Rojas game-worn majestic blue road batting practice jersey with the traditional lettering, which I bought from the Mets when they first started selling them directly. As you can imagine, it was affordable.

A home Rick Trilicek game-worn Majestic blue batting practice jersey from either 1996 or 1997. (I know batting practice jerseys aren't technically “game worn.” Do you say “player-worn” instead?)

A Barry Lyons batting practice pull-over from the late 1980s or early 1990s. This is really cool. Made by Starter, it has his name embroidered into the back, No. 33 on the sleeve and the NY on the chest in beautiful chain-stitching. It's got pockets and everything. I bought this in the Mets Clubhouse Store.

Sorry for the too-large photo. I don't know how to shrink them.

One of the orange majestic batting practice jerseys with the blue stripes under the arms. No name or number. Found it inexpensive somewhere.

An orange Majestic Pedro Martinez 2005 All-Star Game batting practice jersey. I think Pedro was hurt and never made it to the game. It was on a clearance rack at a local Champs with other All-Star jerseys.

My fave non-Mets jersey is a game-worn Duffy Dyer from when he was a Brewers coach.

They wouldn't even need to be game-worn now that I think about it. Game-worn is like an escalator on standard pricing, a "premium" for-subscribers-only benefit.

I have been VERY tempted to pick up various Grays, Crawfords, Elefantes and Cangrejeros-- both their 1954s are like vintage Dodger jerseys minus the Dodger stink and plus embroidered fuggin' CRABS-- products from these folks.

I had Skyline Chili a few years ago. I've been jonesing for it ever since I Iearned about it -- from watching a Mets game. It turned out to be like the worst piece of crap franchise fast food I probably ever ate. Robert Plant once said that Cincinnati was the worst US city he'd ever toured. He said you'd be lucky to get a decent meal there after 10PM. Figures.

Trying to read a story on The Post website these days is really quite ad-nnoying.

It's a non-stop barrage of crap and you need to sift through it all to find the text.

Try the youtube video of Gary's call.

I'm nor sure what's more annoying in that video: the "chili" or the dumb host, but at least you get the video of Gary.

Here's a better video. It's the Mets feed only, without some dopey commentator and his dopey insights.

I wonder if it's more disgusting than the Primanti Brothers sandwiches (with soggy french fries) that is the signature dish at PNC Park.

probably on par. I tend to like chili on noodles, and chili on french fries for that matter, but I could definitely see how a chain could make that badly. It's like thinking sandwiches are bad because you've only had the play dough they sell at Subway.

Chili fries are great, so long as the fries are crispy and soggy.

I agree. That dish could be quite good if it was executed properly. But Skyline's version is a total crapfest. Noodles overcooked to mush. An awful chili/chili sauce -- and watery, too. I can't grasp how that dish could be so revered by so many people.

I had it at a franchise. The sauce is awful. It doesn't evoke spaghetti sauce and it doesn't evoke chili, either. It's some strange concoction and it's over-spiced. And it's watery.

The odd thing is that if I was reading this entire thread without ever having eaten at Skyline Chili, I'd wanna eat there very much just to experience for myself how some meal so apparently popular and beloved could be so awful.

Re: ===**-->>Mets Jersey Check<<--**===

I remember reading a book about chili -- well not a book book but some kind of reading on the subject -- that talked about how Cincinnati chili in general was unlike any other.

It's like one could trace, almost genetically, the evolution where this led to that which led to something else as if it was almost like tracking human migrations. But it went on

to say that whatever happened in Cincy was a left turn out of nowhere that had no logical parentage.

Skyline, I believe, is merely the most popular/known version of this odd twist on an American favorite but that there are other varieties in SW Ohio which still are likely to be

unlike what you/we/most folks think of as Chili.

I vaguely recall reading something like that about Cincinnati chili history. Your post makes sense because the word that comes to mind when I think about Skyline Chili besides awful is unusual.

Cincinnati chili has cinnamon right? and chocolate. *googles*

I wonder how it breaks down culturally. Do people used to Macedonian, or Macedonian adjacent cuisine like it more? or maybe less because it's a pale imitation?

Or does it break down along Pumpkin Spice lines? Lots of similar flavorings there. I wonder if it's correlated...

Yeah, it's the cinnamon in the chili that is completely unnecessary.

Re: ===**-->>Mets Jersey Check<<--**===

If I had a tasty bowl of chili that was to my liking as a starter or foundation, I could make a pretty good version of Skyline chili. The diced onions and shredded cheese are common additions to a bowl of chili. The spaghetti is what makes that dish different, but spaghetti noodles are pretty bland or neutral by themselves, and shouldn't otherwise ruin the rest of that dish.

Anyways, I just described 4-way, I guess. What's the 5th way ingredient- kidney beans?

risotto is great, though not a big seafood fan. I don't know why it has a rep for being hard, it just requires a little more attention than 'normal' rice.
