TWIB Notes-- July 21 to 27

Did you see the BS in ATL last night? They had to play a doubleheader because of rainout this week but SD has a game in MIA on Thursday. ATL was so desperate to split the doubleheader that they tried to squeeze in both games within the time-limits allowed by the Union... except that it didn't rain in the 2 hours between games and it did rain in the 5th inning of the 2d game with SD up 4 to 3. The teams sat around for 3 hours and the game was suspended as ATL didn't get to bat in the 5th and they were losing. SD plays tonight and doesn't return so the rest of the game will have to be played on September 24 in SD if Atlanta says OK. None of this would have happened if Manfred prevented teams from having split doubleheaders this season.

From "opening week superstar" to "fuck it, I'm out" in three months.

MFYs (Chad Green closing) cough up a 2 run lead with 2 out in the 9th, score in the free runner 10th, then give two back in the bottom of the 10th and the Red Sox win.

Free runner in the Sox 10th scores on consecutive wild pitches by Brooks Kriske; batter is walked then wild-pitched to 2nd and wild-pitched to 3rd, from where he scores on a sac fly. 5-4 is your final, MFYs 8 games back and a 1/2 game out of 4th

Hate the bonus runner in extra innings. Love when it causes a MFY loss to the hated Sawx

The NFL got this right (the player's union is weaker than in MLB) but I wish that MLB could have done this, starting with the 3 game opening series in WSH which forced the Mets to make an extra trip to DC and then play 2 doubleheaders when WSH couldn't keep it in their pants (figuratively). https://nypost.com/2021/07/22/nfl-right-to-use-forfeit-threat-if-unvaccinated-players-cause-covid-outbreak/

I hope there's some counseling available to him. Sounds like the behavior of a depressed person.

Yermin was with the team last night so he didn't go anywhere.

Or something, yeah.

Nats lost. Marlins lost. Braves lost (albeit to the Phils).

... and the Yanx lost to the BoSox again.

So a good day all around.

Re: TWIB Notes-- July 21 to 27

If Matt Harvey wasn't MATT HARVEY he'd be a Met this week. BAL doesn't need him this year or next and he's pitched well in his last two starts, including last night v. WSH (6 IP, 0 ER, 1 H). https://www.mlb.com/player/matt-harvey-518774

Meanwhile, WSH was supposed to have an easy series against BAL and a chance to get back into the race... but BAL swept them in a 3-game series including almost-Met Brad Hand blowing the save and the game today. So sad.

Yankees go into the bottom of the 8th leading 4-0 and Germain throwing a no-no. A few minutes later the Red Sox are up 5-4 which becomes the final score.

You could almost feel bad for Yankees fans having to deal with all these soul-crushing losses this season if they hadn't spent the previous 100 years on the other side.

Sunday losses like those at just this time of year are the kind of thing that lead managerial changes.

A day off Monday too. With Tampa coming up. Yikes.

Stay close to the phone, Lee Mazzilli.
