Gary keeps talking about how the minor league ROBO-UMP experiment isn't working well enough. I'd like to know what he's citing. Is there demonstrable evidence out there or is he merely citing anecdotal cases of less than perfection and using those to build a case against the whole concept.

It happens all the time. Pitchers do well. Then they don't. Then they do again. Ain't nobody going to pitch well enough if his team doesn't score.

As Gary noted, the decision was likely informed by the consciousness that they are not expecting more than five innings from their starters each of the next two games.

The other thing that irks me is knowing that with 9 outs left to give, and down one, they'll literally all swing for the tying HR, nine straight turns up. And if none of them hit it then they'll all shrug and go "Oh well, maybe tomorrow we get em"

Tailspin. Booby V used to say that the way to win championships was to split series with the good teams, and win 2/3 of those against the bottom feeders. We are struggling to beat the Pirates and Marlins of the world. It makes no difference if we are in the weakest division in baseball if we cant take advantage of it! Injuries aside, this team lacks a killler instinct that the great teams have: you gotta feast on the bottom-feeders. (I remember for years the Yankees routinely went 15-3 or better against the Orioles.)
