What is this fascination with striking out.

If you want the upside of J Baez you're going to have to take the bad with it.

That strike three pitch wasn't EVER in, or even near, the zone.

Bases loaded, none out and they are vanquished by Braxton Garrett,

The only way they were going to score after bases loaded, none out was a walk, HBP, WP or PB.

I suggest reading this comment from "Brian P." in The Athletic about Javy Baez (Josh Lewin read it on today's "Mets In The Morning" podcast):

[BLOCKQUOTE]Been in love with the Cubs since 84, and Javy is easily my favorite Cub player. That said, I love the trade for PCA and am hoping it works out for the Mets, Cubs and Javy.

To me, the true magic of Javy is he did things none of us have seen before. Tagging someone at second was static for 100 years and now kids (and other players) try to emulate a Javy tag. His base running/swim slides are things we never saw before, at least at the volume he could accomplish them. Even his pointing/checking with the first base ump on a check swing, as illogical as it is, is something no other player has done.

This game is supposed to be fun and entertaining, and Javy is like a Fast and The Furious movie marathon.

Will he drive you nuts, of course, but at least once a week you shake your head (mostly in disbelief, sometimes in disgust) and for that, I love watching him.[/BLOCKQUOTE]

Four hits, only two of which have left the infield.

And two of the four came in front of the pitcher (not that the non-pitchers have done better w/runners aboard).

I'm sure that McCann is a nice guy, his wife seems nice, his twin sons are cute, and he can't be this bad forever but the thought of seeing him through 2024 is not appealing.

"2021 Contract Status: Signed thru 2024, 4 yrs/$40.6M (21-24)"

I'd like to know if the decision to jump on his FA status and not wait for Realmuto was a Sandy move or something that Steve cooked up to attack the market.

He seemed to be slapping his forearm, as if to say he got the runner with his forearm as he passed, which would be a curious argument to be making because (a) tagging a guy with your forearm doesn't count, and (b) that contact, if it occurred at all, happened before the ball arrived anyway.

We need all kinds of rules like this.

My new one is that if a Mgr or PC delays the game so he can talk to his pitcher mid-inning and the next batter gets a hit then that team loses all mound visit privileges for like a week or more.

Many factors play in here. Starting pitchers that don't go deep leave a manager handcuffed. And an offense that gives pitchers absolutely no margin for error.

Mets load the bases in the first with no out, K, K, F7.

Same here. I understand that the Mets didn't have the prospect depth to make more than one high-level deal but Daniel Hudson only cost SD this and the Mets couldn't or didn't want to match:

[BLOCKQUOTE]San Diego parts with Thompson, a 2016 third-round draftee. The righty has made his first four big league appearances this season but spent the bulk of the year with Triple-A El Paso. A pure reliever, Thompson has tossed 26 2/3 innings over 23 appearances, working to a 5.74 ERA with slightly lower than average strikeout and walk rates (21.8% and 7.3%, respectively) in that hitter-friendly environment. He's already on the 40-man roster and has a pair of minor league option years remaining beyond the current season.

Barley has been in the Padres organization since signing as a member of San Diego's massive 2016-17 international class. At one point, the speedster was a fairly well-regarded prospect, but he's struggled to hit in the low minors. Barley has posted higher than average strikeout rates throughout his professional career, and that's continued this season. The 21-year-old is hitting .240/.333/.388 with a 29.4% strikeout percentage in Low-A. Entering the season, Eric Longenhagen of FanGraphs slotted Barley as the #28 talent in the Padres system.[/BLOCKQUOTE]

Re: IGT 08/05 - Metropolitans at Marlins - Clear Skies Matinee

I have no problem with the bullpen. Asking any pitching staff to be perfect enough to support a team scoring one run through eight is always going to drive you crazy. The asylums are filled with former GMs who have gone down that path.

Avoid double plays, get runners in from third with less than two outs, and Heaven will smile on you.

Try to build a pitching staff that's good enough to support a team that hits into double plays and doesn't get runners in from third with less than two outs, and you will weep, alone, on the curb outside a bar that has shut down your tab.

In the rain. So much rain.

Other than the front office, the manager, the hitting, the defense, the starting pitching, sure, no problem... except Lugo turned one-run deficits into multiple-run deficits twice this week. Familia gave up a run today. Within the last two weeks, Banda (RIPittsburg) and Hartlieb (somewhere) had to pitch the 8th inning and turned a close game into a rout. BP help was definitely needed and still is, unless you really, really trust Familia (I don't), think that this is just a blip for Lugo (let's hope but remember that he was injured and maybe he's hiding something), and think that Drew Smith and Y. Diaz are now shut-down middle-innings guys. I'd have pursued Hudson or Soria, especially b/c the BP is needed for 3 or 4 innings every damn game.
