Rich Hill, that is.

He was scheduled to start for TB on Saturday so he can now take the open Sunday spot.

Pending physicals - never a small issue for a 41 year old SP with a "rich" history of arm, shoulder & elbow woes. But still, I like it.

Was working on the pun for a thread title when I saw this. Was thinking "Lothar of the Hill People."

Re: This Is Our Hill

This seems like a very good move. They desperately need another starter (or two) (or three) and Hill has 19 starts this year with a 3.97 ERA.

He's only averaging about five innings per start, but unless this AA player is a top prospect, the price is certainly cheap enough.

I don't trust the Rays at all, though. This "AA guy" is probably the 2023 AL Rookie of the Year.

Excellent, Fman99. I was thinking of this brilliant line: [url]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tnIDLELMkzU

I'm a little surprised the first place Rays are trading a starting pitcher, but those guys do shit differently anyway. I like the trade so far.

Like Seawolf, I want to see who the AA player is.

They have at least two of their top 10 prospects at Binghamton.

I was thinking that maybe it's a salary dump, but Hill is "only" making $2.5 million this year.

I amended the original post. A C, the 4-round pick from last year.

I'm cool with it. Doesn't seem an exorbitant fee to get a 41-year old pitcher who's kinda sucked the last coupla months. We desperately needed a Rich Hill and that it turns out to be the actual Rich Hill is good by me.

Me, too. Especially since it will give catching Prospect Hayden Senger a chance to get more at bats.

Re: This Is Our Hill

He last pitched on Monday so he could pitch as early as Saturday. Walker is set for Saturday while Sunday is "TBD". However, he faced TOR just 2 weeks ago so I wonder if they'll hold him back for one of the games against ATL on Monday, which are both "TBD".

Nice to have someone on the team still representing Generation X, I guess.

I didn't think Tommy Hunter was eligible to be traded.

I didn't really trust Matt Dyer once I was unable to establish any relationship to Duffy.

Because of the IL thing? That rule seems to have loopholes. I remember Zack Wheeler was included in the almost-trade that would have sent Wilmer Flores to the Brewers for Carlos Gomez in 2015. And Wheeler was out for the season with his Tommy John.

Strong MLB pedigree, here, with that second quote.

Sounds too good. Matt Dyer must be very very promising.

Scherzer or Berrios next.
