More Prospect Rankings

Baseball America is back with a midseson list, placing five Met prospects in their Hot 100, or four, depending on how you count Kumar Rocker.

Best news is that most are rising, despite the debris field that the Mets minor league system looks like performance-wise this year. One (Vientos) is sort of rebounding.

18. Francisco Alvarez, C

Up one from the pre-season list, and not as chunky as he looked earlier in the year

65. Bret Baty, 3B

He's in the middle of a tear, and he's up a flaming 29 slots from his pre-season ranking.

66. Kumar Rocker, SP

Not under contract. Not under contract.

One worthwhile thing to not overlook is that he could open up the massive South Asian marketplace to Metsiness.

71. Ronny Mauricio, SS

It was partially a recognition of Mauricio's advancement that the team was able to deal off Amed Rosario and Andres Gimenez in one fell swoop. Mo is enjoying a power surge this season, but still underwhelming in his contact and on-basiness, leading to drop of 21 slots from the pre-season rankings. He's totally built up his body over last year, and I think he needs to get comfortable with his manliness.

Still ranked higher than either of the Yankee shortstop prospects on the list.

97. Mark Vientos, 3B — Mets

He's moved from short to third and may yet be asked to move to first, but he's one of the youngest players in AA (and that honor almost never goes to a domestic-born player) and he's hitting the piss out of the ball.

Re: More Prospect Rankings

Keith Law came out with his mid season top 50.

His rankings were:

8 Francisco Alvarez

28 Rocker !!

36 Mauricio

43 Baty

Vientos didn't make his list. But it was a good showing for the kiddie Mets.
