2020 (2021) Olympics

Just opening this up in case anybody cares to post about it.

Has anyone asked those athletes who have been dropped because of COVID whether they were vaccinated? If so, what did they say?

OE: This one was vaccinated.

The Norwegian Women's beach volleyball team has been banned for NOT wearing bikinis.

https://www.nbcnews.com/news/sports/norwegian-women-s-beach-handball-team-fined-not-playing-bikinis-n1274453

And all this time I thought that wearing bikinis was the whole idea of the sport.

Re: 2020 (2021) Olympics

The US got shut out of medals on the first day, the women's soccer team lost and the men's basketball team just lost for the first time in 22 games.

The US still leads in total medals (changes minute by minute, so check your local source for updates.

And AIR RIFLE SHOOTING is an Olympic sport?

Hasn't anyone told them to be careful they don't shoot their eye out?

I mean, just California is sending more athletes than most countries. I couldn't care less who leads in total medals.

I'll watch if they include sumo wrestling, but only the sumo wrestling.

Re: 2020 (2021) Olympics

I usually get into the Olympics, but find my self struggling with it this year. We were out of town during the Opening Ceremonies - at a Twins game, actually - and caught highlights of the torch-lightning, but that's about it.

i just find the coverage to be maddening and frustrating, at least in terms of being able to turn on my damned tv and know what sport is being played and when.

i'm sure i could stream everything i would want to. but i want to be an old.

I keep seeing lists of what is on per channel but I'd like a grid based on time.

I watch some. Don't particularly care what countries are competing and don't

really get into the USA USA USA thing these days. Some of the sports are silly.

Ping pong, please...

The Latvian beach volley ball squad had some really cool uniforms this afternoon.

Re: 2020 (2021) Olympics

Simone Biles has succumbed the pressure and the publicity.

I feel for her and hope she gets help.

Wouldn't not getting her picture taken help her?

Then why is she still there, and in the picture when other members of her team are getting camera time?

Also - If she is that bad, is there a chance she will compete next week? And if not don't athletes done competing have to go back home within X days of when they finish? This has become visual click bait.

Re: 2020 (2021) Olympics

I've watched very little, but it really has been a remarkable Olympics in terms of athletes putting aside being used for propaganda and jingoism and instead just being good sports and great athletes.

Simone Biles ... is there a chance she will compete next week? And if not don't athletes done competing have to go back home within X days of when they finish? This has become visual click bait.

The answer has become apparent that she was going day by day, evaluating her personal situation and determining if she could compete in all the events she qualified for as the dates approached. After modifying her routine to retool and remove the skills that were affected by "the twisties," she determined she could compete on the balance beam. Hence, no reason for her to leave the Olympics until the last event she could opt in or out of was at hand. And in spite of all she is going through, she scored a bronze medal. And - she was on hand both to support her teammates and be supported by her teammates. All very practical and, in my opinion, laudatory actions.

I still believe Simone Biles is not only the greatest female athlete I've ever seen, she is the greatest athlete I have ever seen. And if she needed mental and emotional help, that merely makes her more human and less of a muscle-and-bone-and-nerves machine. I hope she recognizes just how strong she is and can lean on herself, as well as others, as she recovers her mental health. She clearly has a superior skill set regarding mental health and recognizing when trouble is at hand.

Just pointing out a poster saying one thing and ten days later saying another.

Duh, I don't watch the Olympics --and then-- now I'm an expert on world-class

Olympic athletes regardless of gender and mental health issues to boot.

Obsessed, stalking, fascinated, can't quit? Not at all. Please, drama man.

I read.

And you know all about every word I write. So, that equals obsession.

If you were to spend the amount of time you spend being a dedicated douche bag on not being a dedicated douche bag, that would be a positive use of your time.

You are what I used to call a "roundheels." Easy. No one says "roundheels" anymore. It's been replaced by "low-hanging fruit." Low. Hanging. Fruit.

To repeat: Lolol.

I can't believe this needs to be boiled down.

This is a discussion forum with about 30-50 regular posters.

This is thread on the forum.

In this thread you completely contradicted yourself within ten days.

I pointed it out.

Why does one player on a volleyball team wear a different uniform?

Re: 2020 (2021) Olympics

The contrasting jersey belongs to "the libero" — a defensive specialist who is restricted in where he or she can position him- or herself on the court. The color allows the referees to more easily spot the players if they wander out of their zones.

It's a relatively recent change in the rules, coming out of the nineties, I think.

The other pervasive storyline in these Olympics is China's ascendancy over the US and Russia as the top goldhorder.

Crazy.

Completely contradicted? How? Shall I expect the response to contain cascading quotes so they won't "disappear"? Naturally, because this is an incredibly important "experiment" you're conducting in this tiny little digital clubhouse. Please continue to amuse me because without your faux* outrage, there would be nothing to read here. I'll return in 10 days to check your temperature.
