We've hit the 2-1/2 hours mark and there is one out in the 6th inning.

During Ronnie & Keith's day (I picked 1985 for no particular reason) 1/4 of their games were already over by this point.

The 2021 Mets have TWO (9-inning) games under 2:30

Davis played on 52 innings in left last year, and is atrociously bad there. Playing him there regularly would appear to invite disaster, but I'd certainly be in favor trying it at least when facing a lefty.

Re: IGT 09/07 NYM@MIA Time to Moon Miami

They're playing Smith out there, who's come along a little bit, but not enough and he also doesn't hit. You could spot sit Báez, though the drop-off from Davis to him isn't as stark as to Pillar or Smith or McNeil. It's working okay against these garbage teams, but the Mets desperately need the added offense.

But yes, some of this is a product of not having the foresight to play Davis in LF in the minors when he was rehabbing this injury. Or, you know, signing Springer.

Gwreck
Sep 08 2021 10:40 AM
Re: IGT 09/07 NYM@MIA Time to Moon Miami

To Rojas' credit, he stopped playing Smith. Sure, Smith did miss 3 games on the bereavement list, but in total he has 4 PA in the last 12 days. And while I agree that Pillar is not good, unless you seriously want to suggest Conforto in center (and I don't think you are doing that), there aren't better options that Pillar in the lineup.

So again, it's really just Davis in for McNeil. I can get behind that, or at least as a platoon.

Ceetar
Sep 08 2021 01:25 PM
Re: IGT 09/07 NYM@MIA Time to Moon Miami

I am in fact suggesting Conforto for center. It's not ideal, and you'd want to bring Pillar defensively later in the game, but for a team that NEEDS more offense, you can't just not play Davis. they don't have that luxury. Of course with Nimmo out, you need TWO non-Conforto outfielders anyway. So we're probably stuck with Pillar, but Davis needs to be in there way more than he has been. Rojas had been liberally sitting Conforto too, which ain't great, unless there's something we don't know (lingering Covid fatigue or something)

Edgy MD
Sep 08 2021 01:47 PM
Re: IGT 09/07 NYM@MIA Time to Moon Miami

Another option is Villar for center, opening up third for Davis or whoev.

Gwreck

Re: IGT 09/07 NYM@MIA Time to Moon Miami

I am reminded that for a time in 2007, the Mets had Carlos Gomez, Carlos Beltran, and Endy Chavez all starting in the same outfield; it was probably the greatest defensive starting outfield in the history of the Mets.

Would Davis - Conforto - McNeil be the worst?
