I'm going to be so mad when we sell low on him this offseason and he becomes Justaniel Murphner somewhere else.

McNeil has much more of a track record than Turner did. Murphy was tougher, though if the ball wasn't juiced (or wasn't going to stay juiced) it wouldn't have really been a big deal. I think they have to push for some negotiating about the ball quality control, as I believe a few Mets hinted at earlier this season. It's pretty confusing and messes with team construction, not to mention players own value if they're going into the offseason in a season that's boosting offense and they're a pitcher, or vice versa.

Really look no farther than Edwin Diaz, the Mets traded for the best relief pitcher in baseball, though a fly ball one, and suddenly MLB made the ball fly like 30 more feet and made it harder to throw sliders.

The future of McNugget deserves its own thread.

Agreed.

And I was just being a sore loser, love ol' acorn cheeks.

he's only going into his first arb season. He's a Met, part of the current offensive issues. Plenty of time in the offseason to fake trade him.

He's just a fascinating figure to observe, and it's hard to sort out whether his constant red ass is working for him or against him, or possibly both.

Maybe he gets a lid on his emotions, and turns out to be George Brett. Maybe he doesn't and he turns out to be Jeff King.

Yeah I think he's screaming for a "change of scenery" trade, or transition to a new role as a superutility guy. Seems like, these kinds of transitions accompany a new org,and given Jeff's red ass, accepting such a role with the Mets seems unlikely. I mean he had a fistfight in the dugout with Lindor, was sorta taken off the hook and humiliated at the same time by Lindor's flippant explanation--nothing McNeil could say about what actually happened would do any good to him or Lindor, who's not about to get traded and has gallons of more juice than he does. Also the Mets traded for a guy to replace him in the middle of the year. He's out.

I could see him thrive somewhere like Oakland

Has a career 124 OPS+, including this awful season. Cano is 126. Baez is 105. Offensively he's the best bet of the three going forward, and it isn't close.

He had a really good July and then hit a brick wall. I still think he's been dealing with nagging injuries (like Conforto, and possibly Smith as well). Since he seemed to regain his form earlier in the year when he wasn't playing every day, I don't know why he's in the lineup every day now. It's not like he's clearly outperforming what Smith could do.

He's batting eighth tonight.

When Leo Durocher put Adolfo Phillips in the #8 slot, young Adolfo got disheartened.

So, Leo told him "You're my #2 cleanup hitter".

It turned out to be a great attitude adjustment comment, because Phillips responded with the best season of his major league career.

Maybe they should say that to McNeil.
