At Sunday night's game, Mrs. Fafif heard Aaron Loup's entrance music…

…and observed, “It sounds like ‘Bye-Bye Li'l Sebastian,'” the heartfelt tribute to Pawnee, Ind.'s beloved miniature horse on Parks & Recreation.

WTF? He wanted to stay. He was great last season. Are the Wilpons running the show again?

Re: Aaron Loup: Bullpen Workhorse

I never got a distinct impression he was a "I wanted to stay in NYC" kinda guy. Great year, probably won't happen again, but it amps up the pressure on the Mets to find a good lefty out-getter.

Re: Aaron Loup: Bullpen Workhorse

Mostly, the Mets have been successful when forced to do that. Too bad they've been forced to.

Seventeen million. Wowzo.

Re: Aaron Loup: Bullpen Workhorse

Loup was insulted at not winning the Schaefer Reliever of the Year Award. And so he left town.

Yeah, I'd pass at that amount too. Thanks for the memories, Loup.

Classic Alderson. Bemoan the price of everybody and then get bargain guys that don't work and wonder why you lose.

At this point in the off-season, losing Loup is a bigger blow to the Mets than losing Syndergaard, imho.

I feel the same way.

$17 million! Good for him, but relievers are a crapshoot.

I have a feeling that tomorrow we're going to read that Pete Alonso has signed with the Angels.

I heard that Schaefer was pissed about him giving an unpaid endorsement to Busch Lite.

I don't know. It's what I heard.

The problem has been the opposite where the bullpen is concerned. Trevor May got multiple years, Aaron Loup didn't. Familia wasn't worth 3 and 30, Betances somehow got a player option, and I'd rather have Justin Dunn than Edwin Diaz regardless of how well Kelenic does from this point forward. There were plenty of good relievers to be had cheaply when the Mets signed Loup in late January, but they stopped there and were AWOL at the deadline.

I'm OK with Loup getting that money some place else. That's a lot to pay for 56 innings. Plus he's bound to regress to the mean compared to last year, even if he remains solid.

Re: Aaron Loup: Bullpen Workhorse

Yeah, Aaron Loup isn't irreplaceable the way Syndergaard is. Clearly Alderson thought the relievers he signed were worth that. But he's got a long history of saying things like "Was surprised at the market for that guy" when he misses out one someone they were tepidly in on. It's okay to have a rough budget, but if you don't adjust it based on the market, you're just saving money for the owner at the expense of the team and fans. (and the players note this. Labor issues incoming)

Re: Aaron Loup: Bullpen Workhorse

It will be interesting to see how Sandy replaces Loup's production. I agree with letting him walk for that kinda money. Especially since I don't know that Aaron Loup is the best guy to replace Aaron Loup. Hopefully our beefed up nerd department can find the next Loup.
