My neighbor is building an ark and collecting animals. Should I be concerned?

Re: Ida, Some Water Over Here!

The lower level of our house (family room and garage) has water.

Haven't been outside yet to assess any other damage.

Official report for my town over 7 inches, which brings the total from the last two storms in the past few days to over 12 inches of rain.

Re: Ida, Some Water Over Here!

Fifth wettest day in Central Park since 1869 with nearly 7" of rain.

Broke a record of most precipitation in one hour (8:51-9:51) with

3:15" falling. That's a lot of water Ida, you silly gal...

Re: Ida, Some Water Over Here!

Rained about 24 hours here...but so far the river readings have hardly changed which is surprising. Pumping down the pool a little. Had to do that after Fred (or whatever its name was) and Henri too.

No wind to speak of

Take care, you guys.

Re: Ida, Some Water Over Here!

we've had water issues in our basement here since always. some of it has remediated in various ways but we got he usual last night, sneaks in through the concrete where the floor meets the walls in a few spots, just volume of water up against the house. we're on a hill so it's hard. Did get a lot of dirt onto our patio from the hill behind it, and an empty white claw can.

Re: Ida, Some Water Over Here!

Garage (detached) roof leaked a little. Wouldn't be a big deal, and it has

leaked some before in heavy rains, but it got my stereo receiver and when

I turn it on it goes into 'Protect' mode. Gonna sun it a day or two and hope-

fully it dries out and survives.

So y'all are saying that postponing the game Wednesday night was probably a good idea then?

Saw some crazy pictures from the tennis stadium.

Re: Ida, Some Water Over Here!

I've lived about 50 miles east of the city for the past 17+ years, and last night between 11 and 12 was the most rain I've ever seen come down here. Pretty crazy.

A few friends of ours have some wet basements but we're all good. Was pretty tense watching video reports from PA / NJ / NY as it approached.

Elsa, earlier this year, probably had more rain per minute at certain points, just shorter. Just anecdotally looking at my backyard/street.

Sunny in Cleveland, though my girlfriend in Astoria got a quarter inch of water in her basement apartment, and the roof leaked in the top-floor condo where I used to live in Jersey and where I now have a tenant.

My mother's name was Sandy and her mother's name was Ida. I'll have to check the family tree for my maternal-maternal great grandmother's name. If ever there's a hurricane named after her, take cover.

On Long Island, I'm guessing? I live in Ronkonkoma, up the street from the lake. And when I say "up," I mean about 20 feet up a hill, which is a really good thing when storms like this happen. There was a restaurant on the other side of the lake that totally got obliterated from a nor'easter in 2009, and they've since left that area to nature. The lake would have claimed it a second time if they tried rebuilding.

Re: Ida, Some Water Over Here!

Was that a Bavarian themed restaurant?

I seem to remember there was one of those on the lake although it's been probably two decades since I've been by there.

It was called the Bavarian Inn.

Re: Ida, Some Water Over Here!

Our entire yard was an inch or two of standing water -- came down faster than it could be absorbed and way more than that hurricane 🌀 a few weeks ago that was supposed to have been worse.

All better today, and the house stayed dry. Plus cooler weather 😎

Fairfield, CT. Sometimes I wish I lived down closer to the beach, but I don't mind being 100+ feet above sea level.

I'm in Northern Fairfield County, 800 feet elevation. I live on a hill and I got water. We're still trying to dry out the carpet in the family room.

Interesting, the water didn't come downhill from the land higher than us, but on the low side of the house. I guess that was the direction the wind was blowing from.

Re: Ida, Some Water Over Here!

Come to find out little by little that a number of houses on our street had

basement water issues this time around so I'm quite thankful we dodged

that bullet. Basement is enough of a mess as is without it being a wet one.

Re: Ida, Some Water Over Here!

My daughter, aged 11 at the time was home alone and frantically called me at work saying she heard a crack in the basement and looked down to see water rising

I had just started working at Mellon bank and they actually considered not letting me go home

Finally my supervisor said, what's your password; I'll balance your drawer so you can leave (thank goodness for her)

By the next morning my little town of Woolrich was an island and we were all pumping

Yes basement flooding is terrible! You loose so much stuff :(

I wonder where my son was? If she was 11 he was 5. Daycare I guess I would have had to stop and get him too
