Official release: FLUSHING, N.Y., October 4, 2021 — The New York Mets today announced the club will not pick up the option on Manager Luis Rojas for the 2022 season. In addition, decisions regarding the remaining coaching staff will be made over the next several days. The Mets have offered Rojas the opportunity to remain in the organization in a yet to be determined capacity. “The entire Mets organization is grateful for the dedication and devotion that Luis has exhibited over the last two seasons as manager,” said President Sandy Alderson. “He has shown a great commitment to the Mets over many years in multiple capacities. These decisions are never easy, but we feel a change is needed at this time.” “I want to share such heartfelt gratitude to so many in the Mets organization for not only the last two seasons as manager, but for the last 16 years in a variety of roles,” said Rojas. “In each and every position I held, striving for excellence was our daily mission. I will always hold the relationships and friendships, developed over the years, dear to my heart, and am forever grateful to have been able to wear the Mets uniform for so long. We live in a results oriented business, and am deeply disappointed for our staff and fans that we didn't reach our goals this season.”

In the abstract, an experienced big league manager sounds like a better option. We did okay with Gil Hodges and Bobby Valentine and Terry Collins, but then again, not so much with Art Howe and Jeff Torborg and Jerry Manuel. So I don't know. At this point I'm not going to select a favorite, I'll just be an interested observer. I just hope that the guy they hire, whoever he is, wins a lot more games than he loses.

Face it. No one knows squat about which manager, which type of manager, which general philosophy of manager, or anything else about managing a MLB club, to hire. Rojas could have been brilliant or the world's largest dumbass, and his worst enemy or best friend wouldn't have known what he did wrong or right. No one knows nothing about managing.

anyone that's actually _in_ the clubhouse has an idea. including his bosses. Most of the stuff is outside reporter or fan visibility, but there's no indication that he did those things well either.

I know something about managing. Don't put two men on with no outs and then don't score. Several innings per game. This was clearly Luis' managerial shortcoming, he sucked at that.

He sucks. Let's hire A. A sucks. He doesn't how to win. Hire B! B sucks. He's a loser. Hire C. C doesn't know squat, compared to A. I say hire A. A is a dumbass, and so are B and C. Hire D. I think I decline to participate in this conversation.

Mine are much more enlightening. They satisfy the hunger of the heart and thirst of the mind. They illuminate corners of ignorance so dark that you didn't even know they were there. Those made low by the tyrant's contumely are compelled to stand anew. Those exalted by their own wicked and empty self-regard are laid low. Corrupted ideas are made to shrivel, with only their curiously shaped core of credibility remaining. Rejected wisdom is scrubbed and turned about and re-considered by eyes newly opened. And the stone that was laughed at in the quarry of intellectual misery is made the cornerstone of a new foundation — a foundation for a monument to success and clarity and charity and Mets wins and all that is good and just. Those are my conversations. In these conversations, the art and science of athletic personnel management becomes the map for a full and meaningful life.

My feelings speak less of which candidate we should hire, and more to why we hire the candidate we do. That said, E is lovely and a real asset to the organization.
