Gimme Another Name, Just One Other Name

Where are the Mets going to find a president of baseball operations, particularly one who doesn't see the job as an opportunity to wave his (or her?) penis?

In the spirit of folks reading the tea leaves of Once Upon a Time in Queens, I think the Mets' next president of baseball operations will be ... Ed Lynch!

Kim Ng - making a statement that harassment will no longer be tolerated.

She has succeeded at every increasingly important front office position she has earned.

Hey!

Kim Ng is a very viable candidate.

Well, sure, I guess. Even if she's currently employed, a PoBO with the Mets is a higher-profile job than a GM with the Marlins.

While I'd disagree with anybody who flaunts a brand of "succeeded wherever they've been," I'd hate her to be hired as a symbol. And I hope she'd be very wary of any employer who wanted to use her as such.

Re: Gimme Another Name, Just One Other Name

At some point her abilities will get her through the glass ceiling, so why shouldn't it be the Mets who allow her to be the first to crack it?

Yes, there have been examples of Peter principle in the past, especially when good/ loved players become bad managers, but there have been other examples of people succeeding.

I think she can succeed.

She's my "one other name" and I'll stick to it.

I'm not sure what you're getting at. She's the general manager, the highest ranking baseball officer, for one of 30 Major League clubs. She is the first ever female who can say that. She hasn't already pierced the glass ceiling?

There are approximately 3,845,488,000 other females in the world. If gender equity matters, I'm sure the Mets can interview and/or hire any number of them, without raiding the Marlins for their GM, thereby keeping the membership of The Female Chief Baseball Executive Club limited to one.

Stick to it, certainly. I don't object to her at all. I'd be very leery of using her to make a statement. And I imagine, not needing the job, so would she.

I like Lynchie and think he oughta have a role on Billy Beane's staff. I'm so hot for Beane right now I can barely stand it. It just makes too much sense

It's not that Im against hiring Beane, so why do I have this nagging sense that doing so now would be like jumping on a trend far too late? A trend NYM fans know far too well from the Wilpon era.

He's been at this a long time now -- first as GM, later as Prez/Head-o-BB-Ops or whatever they call it -- and I wonder if he's still as invested and if his ideas are still as fresh. I remember reading a

couple years back about his growing interest in futbol and how metrics might apply to that sport and I think maybe he's itching for a different challenge.

I'm probably wrong and certainly a change of teams, coasts, and $$ situations should certainly constitute enough of a challenge to reinvigorate him even if the situation exists where such a thing is

needed. But I also wonder about the wisdom of hiring 'The Big Name' guy for purposes of 'Making a Splash' when perhaps they should be focused on the more forward looking route of searching for

the Next Billy Beane instead of taking the safe route of going with the last one. The Knicks and their corporate owned roots have been falling into this trap for decades now and it never gets them

anywhere except being stuck paying off a high-priced coach and/or GM when they realize halfway through his contract that the guy they just 'had to have' wasn't the answer any more than the last

ten 'had to have' GMs and coaches were.

And if they hire him I'll be happy.

Beane can make finding the next Beane a part of his job for the Mets. He did alright with some assistants already.

Bobby Valentine is now available.

Experienced "baseball man".

Not afraid of the NY press.

Loves the team.

If he can run a large city (he thought he can) a daunting task doesn't scare him.

Might be fun.

Valentine would keep the press busy with his oddities that they wouldn't be able to focus on the front office disfunction. Cohen might like that.
