Ten points can be tough booty to corral, and so that question stays on the board. Good news is that there is no negative for getting a bonus wrong.

This is correct for three points! Your Lefty Specialist Bonus Question: Who Is the earliest MLB first-round draft pick that is still active (or at least was at the end of the 2021 season)?
That's three more Grimm points to add to your kitty! Your Ben Grimm Bonus Question: Which first-round-selected Major Leaguer, who ultimately became a Met, had the shortest Mets career?
This is correct, for five points! I'm curious about your style. Why are your answers being submitted with elipses after them? IS THERE TEXT WE AREN'T SEEING?! Your SECOND Lefty Specialist Bonus Question: In 2016, Daulton Jefferies was the Oakland A's first round draft pick. Which former Met is his uncle??

Lefty is clearly delayed by the devastation of having two HIGH VALUE questions on the board at once. But lest I let proceedings grind to an ABSOLUTE halt, I've continued to score. Unfortunately, that means Lefty has to juggle one more question (though not the two more that he was looking for).
Matlack is correct. He is our first #1 draft pick to flourish. This gives you three additional points putting you, at the time of this posting, within one point of the lead! Lefty's new bonus question (and our first to be repeated!): How many Mets first rounders were born in New York state?
As noted, the judges consider this to be a consecupost, and have disallowed it.
Mazzilli indeed! Who needs five tools when you can have three and a half, with a bonus plate discipline tool! You're on the board with three points! Johnny Lunchy's bonus question: How many Mets were #1 overall draft picks?
The Milkshake knows. The Milkshake exclaims! Milkman's bonus question: Which year's draft has thus far produced the first round that has included the most future Mets?

Bonus question answer: I'm going to guess 1974. Those bad late 1970s and early 1980s Mets teams were filled with last chances and "take-a-flyer" guys, and it seems like players drafted in the early 1970s would have progressed and been given up on by the later years.

Good work staying with 1980, Baby! Three points and the lead for you! Your Bonus Question: How many father/son combinations shared first-round draft pick status? These are father/son pairs (Metly or not) that were each drafted in the first round of the MLB draft.
You're always in the game with Notre Dame! Three points and welcome to the board! Your Bonus Question: What date marked the first appearance of a first-round draft pick in a Mets uniform?
Correct! A first rounder and an almost unheard-of two-time minor league player of the year honoree. Your Bonus Question: What city has the largest Francophone metropolitan area?
And the third of the three in-house 1980 selections comes off the board! Your Bonus Question: How many Mets who were Rookie of the Year winners, no matter which team they were with when they won it? I don't have time to show the updated display of the all-time tables, but her are your scores.

I like your logic and commitment to the question, but not quite. Dakar has the sixth-largest Francophone metro area. I'm glad to see you alive and well.
That's 10 bonus points for you!! Waino was drafted with the 29th pick of the 2000 draft. He is technically a 20th century ballplayer.

The second overall pick taken in the 1973 draft, courtesy of the Phillies. It took 17 rounds for him to go in the stupid, stupid NFL draft. This is five points for you, moving you squarely into fourth place!!! We spin the wheel of 50 bonus questions, and … amazingly, you get another repeat question! What city has the largest Francophone metropolitan area?
Royce Ring is currently a Mets pitching coach and was once the return on a trade by the Mets of Hall-of-Fame second baseman (and currently mysteriously banished from MLB employment) Roberto Alomar. He was also a #18 overall pick by the White Sox, and that means five points for you!! This deposes Chad ochoseis from his brief reign as fourth-place holder, and it earns you an exciting bonus question! Your bonus question: How many siblings of 1986 Mets were drafted by an MLB team?
You know how to pick ‘em. You get five, rather than three, points for naming a Met first-rounder selected by another organization, and you get an extra three points for naming a #1 overall pick. Eight points! That's enough to bounce you into fourth place (our third change in that position in a row!), and you can get even more if you correctly answer a bonus question! Your bonus question: What date marked the first appearance of a first-round draft pick in a Mets uniform? (I'm pretty sure that's come up before, but hey, answer it correctly, and you'll never have to see again!)
Chad, depressed about falling out of fourth, is not ashamed to take a big ol' bite o' some low-hanging fruit. That three-point EXPLOSION not only knocks you back into a tie for fourth, but really gets things jammed up in the pack behind leader Lefty Specialist, with five players sitting within three points of each other. But you, Chad, you don't want not three points. You're here for the bonus money! Your bonus question: How many Mets were MLB Rookie of the Year winners, no matter which team they were with when they won it? (Another returning question? Another returning question!) Let's see that scoring!
And let's see what we have so far? (Click a section of the chart below to see a larger version of that portion of the chart.)

I skipped this answer earlier, and I shouldn't have, because it's GOOD FOR FIVE POINTS AND SECOND PLACE! Another bonus question for Chad: Which year's draft featured three consecutive first rounders who ultimately got to be Mets?
This answer provided endless handwringing back at headquarters, as we reviewed rule number three.
Randall K. was a number-one pick in the now-extinct June secondary phase back in 1982, reserved for a constricted pool of players who had already been drafted but were not signed. This was indeed a supplemental draft under Rule 3 above, so we cannot allow this as a correct answer. This draft did, however occur in June, and we can understand how the final sentence under Rule 3 might be taken as conflicting information. There will therefore be no section of one point from Ben's score. Going forward, however, be forewarned. Supplemental and secondary phases dinna count, even if they are in June.
No such handwringing was necessary in scoring this one. Ike was the Mets' top draft pick in 2008, and his name gives you three points! This pulls you into a tie for third, as four players jockey with only two points separating them! Your bonus question Is good ol' #41: Which Mets first-round draft choice (not necessarily a Met) was the first such draftee to receive a bonus valued at over a million dollars in 2021 figures? We're looking for a guy who didn't necessarily get a million dollars at the time, but after adjusting for inflation and cost of living, it's 2021 equivalent would totally be over a million dollars. Mets! Economics! Math! Good luck!
Ocho is so ON in this quiz that he gives zero shits about names and goes right for the nicknames! We should give him a nickname-based trivia question! Anyhow, he's right for three points, breaking further away from that third-place pack! Your bonus question: Who was the first US first lady with a formal education? (Click a section of the chart below to see a larger version of that portion of the chart.) Here's the scoreboard:
And here's something like the history of first-round draft choices on your team:

The judges turned in a few more scorecards while we wait to see if the Knot is still participating.
We've got to at least get our Sandy Alderson #1's all on the board and Brandon was Sandy's #1 #1! Three points for you! This pulls you away from the field and toward the leaders, giving you some breathing room in sole possession of third! Your bonus question: Who ended George Brett's 30-game hitting streak in 1980?
A giant of a pick by a giant of an organization, Zack's trade to the Mets allowed Carlos Beltran to go west and do what he does, going a Beltranian .323 / .369 / .551 // .920 down the stretch for the 2011 Giants, who somehow missed the playoffs anyhow. But your post is about Zack Wheeler, and Zack's status as a San Francisco first rounder has earned you five points and pulled you within seven points of the lead!! Your bonus question: Which first round, before 2017, produced the lowest average career bWAR among all draftees?
Ashcroft gets on the board with Humbelina, who threw one complete game in his whole career and it was a perfecto! Your bonus question: Which team, besides the Mets, drafted and signed the most future Mets in the first round?
Veryzer well done! The Detroit Tigers made Tom the #11 overall pick in 1971, and hat's five points for you and 37 years after his last game (and seven years after his early death), TV is still helping win games, garnering five points for you and boosting you out of the cellar into seventh place, where all the cool kids hang out. Your bonus question: How many players drafted in the first round by the Mets retired without ever playing for them?

Out of the basement!
Making some assumptions here, I'm guessing you are saying guys who went to the minors but didn't get to the majors with the Mets, as opposed to guys like Kumar Rocker, who didn't play at all in the Mets system --which would be a trick question. So, in 56 years, knowing most of these guys with the Mets don't make it, I'm guessing 30 of the 56.

So this is a guy who was drafted by the Mets but didn't necessarily play for them, as opposed to one who played for them but wasn't necessarily drafted by them?

Well, Kumar didn't retire, so we're really looking for first rounders who (a) failed to graduate from the minors, or (b) graduated from the minors only after moving on to another organization. Guessing 30 is coming in high. Nonetheless, keep in mind that the Mets have had more than 56 first-round draft picks, garnering multiple picks in some years. |

Thank you for jumping in there and Gavining. The judges will have that scored just as soon as we catch up on these answers and folks lock in their bonus question responses!
You left out the “a” in his first name, but are damned correct about his draft status! (If only just!) TW went to Seattle with the 43rd overall pick in the 2010 draft, but still, technically, in the first round! This wins you five points and pulls you into a tie for sixth place! Third place is within your reach if you can answer your bonus question! We spin the wheel and assign you a bonus question: How many players who played for the Mets were #1 OVERALL picks? I believe you've already had this one, so here's a real chance for you to break the bank!
Yes, once upon a time, Braden Loop-de-doop was a high-value draft pick, and he's still paying dividends today by winning you five points! This helps you leapfrog Ben Grimm into third place! It also earns you to chance to win big points by answering a bonus question — not that you will! But the chance is there! Your unwanted bonus question is a repeater: Who was the first US first lady with a formal education?
I'm still trying to figure out the meaning of your second paragraph, but … YES! Rick Porcello! Evoking Rick's sweet name earns you five points and delivers you from the cellar!! ashie's bonus question: How many children or stepchildren of 1986 Mets were drafted by an MLB team?
Well-played! Joe Panik shared the distinction of going to the Giants in the first round along with Zack Wheeler. He went 29th overall in 2011, and you breathing his cognomen has enriched your score by five chips. This pulls you into a tie for fourth place! I missed this guess. Butch was a seventh-round pick in 1989 out of Eisenhower High in Lawton, OK. Minus one for you. "Can't miss" indeed! Butch ROCKED! You know how many picks from that round out-performed Butch Huskey that year? ONE! (And that one was Russ Springer of the Yankees, so you know he took PEDs.) Worry not! You are still firmly in second place!
Bobby V. Is not only honorable, but RIGHT honorable, and he was honored with the Dodgers' first pick (fifth overall) in 1968. That means five points for you! You have jumped from eighth to sixth! Less danger of relegation!
Gary might have been a first-rounder under other circumstances or other conditions. He was selected in the 11th round by Houston initially in 1965. When he didn't sign, Baltimore selected him in the first round of the January 1966 secondary phase. The Mets ultimately signed him as a third round pick in the supplemental stage of the 1967 June draft, but ultimately, he doesn't fit our criteria. A point lost, but nothing ventured, nothing gained!
Cheech gets you on the board! Five points for you! That's one point for every homer Cecchini hit in AA this season!

I suspect the Mets didn't even have a hype machine before Doublepon came in! Even if they did, Steve Henderson came into the league as a Reds fifth-rounder, and no amount of hype was going to make the Seaver trade a popular one! While it is, however, true that Jon Matlack graduate from Nevada's Henderson High School, that answer will still get you NO POINTS! It will, however COST YOU ONE!
It's not only cool, it's GOOD FOR FIVE POINTS!! You can thank THE TEXAS RANGERS! Something else that is cool is you CLIMBING INTO SEVENTH PLACE with one bonus question answer separating you from THIRD!
Shawon Dunston is, of course, a Met who was a first-round draft pick, netting you three points! He's also a first-round draft pick from outside the organization, which nets you TWO EXTRA points! Finally, he's a #1 overall pick, which bumps up your score by THREE MORE POINTS! Such an answer is the HIGHEST-SCORING answer you can get without a bonus question! That's pretty good for someone who claims not to know how the game is played! And you know what you get now?! A BONUS QUESTION!
I can't say with certitude that what you're smelling is Cameron Maybin's draft status, but his status is in fact that of a FIRST-ROUNDER! Cameron went in the first round to Detroit back in 2005 and he's earning you five points in 2021! Know what makes foul smells go away? The sweet air of a tie for THIRD PLACE! And that air will smell all the sweeter if you can answer your BONUS QUESTION!!

Please answer those hanging questions, competitors! The home audience is itching to see those cards turned over!
Candy went to the Buccos in the second round back in 1972, out of Brooklyn's LaSalle Academy. We like your thinking, but we'll still dock you a point!
Now there's a low-hanging piece of goodeness, and it grants you three points! It also lifts you into a TIE FOR THIRD PLACE! But wait! There's MORE!
It takes a lot of wits to come up with BURNITZ! That's three points for YOU!! That allows you to jump up to sixth place, but that means FIRST PLACE IN YOUR FAMILY!! And that's before you tackle your RED-HOT BONUS OPPORTUNITIES!!
Port St. Lucie's own Rick Ankiel could pitch, he could hit, and he could play some outfield, but for some reason none of that was tantalizing enough in 1997 for any team to jump on his rights in the first round! SAD! And that's going to cost you a POINT! You remain in fourth, but you fall back into a tie with Johnny LUNCHBUCKET!!

Name a name! Get in the game!!
There's always JB to add to your score with a chance for MORE! Five points for you gets you up to second place WITH A BONUS ON THE WAY!! Sorry. I must've been up late when I added this question to the list, because it's a doozy. But give it a shot, and then take a crack at the BROKEN-OPEN QUESTION!!
Lucky Lindy was born in Puerto Rico, but he went to high school in Monteverde, FL, and that allowed the Indians to pick him in the first round in 2011! BUT … Frayed Knot already correctly guessed The Lindberger back near the top of this question. I'll try to put together a list of correctly guessed names, as finding them all in that grid below is prolly a pain.
When you're cool, you're cool. And you've got FIVE COOL POINTS coming your way! That leapfrogs you into fourth with a crack at the BIG MONEY!
Speaking, indeed! But Steady Eddie apparently wasn't steady enough in high school to go above the third round! THAT'S A POINT OFF! BRUTAL! That drops you from second into a tie for second! O, UNHAPPY DAY!!

The Amazing Bill Mazer was a legendary local New York sportscaster, as well renowned for his sports erudition as for his boring delivery. You're zooming in quite well. Give me the nation on that solid surface in which Mazer was birthed and five points will be yours.
Also good reasoning with Harvey, who had been first taken in round three by the Angels before the Mets grabbed him in a later year. No bonus points for him, but he will be tallied as your regular guess. Ventura was only drafted once.

Back in action and welcoming Bob Alpacadaca to the leaders' board.
Well, that's well played, because Tyner gets you within a point of third place, to where you had backslid! And you are within spitting distance fo the top! And you know how to keep going up — with your BONUS QUESTION!
Please note that Johnny Lunchbucket has been sitting on this question, and answering it correctly means you not only get big POINTS, but Johnny goes home empty-handed.
Somehow, Marcus' modest frame didn't scare off the big time scouts! At least, not the scouts for Toronto! And he didn't scare YOU OFF EITHER! And that's why you get FIVE POINTS!! And, OMIGOD! THAT MAKES YOU THE NEW LEADER BY A SINGLE POINT!! But wait … there's MORE!!
Now that's brain thinking. My main memory of Don Schultze was that, in his Mets debut, his uniform had been assembled so rapidly that his name instantly started peeling off of his back. You correctly recalled that he had been a first-rounder for the Cubs!! That's MORE THAN brain-thinkin'! That's FIVE-POINT brain-thinkin'! And a chance for MORE!!
Craig Swan's fond recollections at Shea include him getting a call from the daycare center to report that his daughter got a wad of bubble gum stuck in Preston Wilson's hair. Preston got the last laugh as he was eventually drafted in the first round by the team and young Ms. Swan went unselected! Wait, Preston didn't get the last laugh! You did! Because you get three points!! You also get a chance to put some space between you and the field by racking up BONUS points as you answer the following, but only after you give me a less JIVE-INTENSIVE answer to the Bill Mazer question!
Yes, a-MAZE-ingly, our random question generator generated the same random question TWICE IN A ROW!! Our judges and technicians have examined the instrument and ruled that everything in good, working, well calibrated condition!! So marathon and Al Paca had better hurry to beat the other to this question!

Lots of movement, especially by late entry Bob Alpacadaca! Marathon is trying to run away and hide, but he never will if he doesn't answer that Bill Mazer question!!
As noted above, Eddie has been guessed. No points off for you, THIS TIME!!
Hubie amazingly got drafted SIX times, out of high school, junior college and Arizona State University. After turning down his first selection, the subsequent drafts were all secondary, but he was always a high pick. Ultimately he was waiting for a call from the Mets, who made his dream come true (AND YOURS!) when they picked him third overall in the 1978 draft! Three points! And bonus question FUN!
Harvey is correct! A first-round phenom out of UNC! For you, that means three points and THAT MUCH more distance between you and the rest of the FIELD! Plus, you know, a swing at that BONUS QUESTION ACTION!!
You're thinking outside the shrink-rap there! Rick had played forever, and had long since faded into part-time status, but somehow showed up on the Mets in 1991 and led them in games caught. Did a half-decent job, too! As did you for remembering that Rick had been a first rounder a generation earlier, and that's why you get FIVE POINTS! I'm not saying you should audition to be a member of RATT, but you are OUT OF THE CELLAR!! Plus, you've earned a chance at the BIG MONEY with this BONUS QUESTION!!

We're catching up on scoring some buttered bonus questions!
Well, that's just operating out of order. Answer the regular question first!! Under any circumstances, no, Brooks and Dunnie are not the two Mets drafted in the regular edition first round first. Hubie would be an excellent guess, generally, as he was drafted a whole bunch of times, but back then, once you opted not to sign the first time, you fell into a secondary draft pool. We're only looking for guys picked in the first round of the primary phase of the draft.
Assuming this is the "How many first rounders have been Mets?" question, this is a healthy guess but you're coming in high. The good news is that we have a high guess and a low guess on this question. We now have a finite range of possible answers.
Well that crosses out one of your chances to attempt that question, but you still have bonitos on the board, and with them, further passes at that two-timer question.
As noted earlier, THIS IS CORRECT!!! GO WOLVERINES!!! TEN POINTS TO YOU!!! Welcome to the middle of the pack!!
