Full Throated Camaraderie

No rat. No raccoon. But there is a Puma.

The tension had been building for at least 2 ½ weeks between Francisco Lindor and Jeff McNeil when it reached a boiling point on May 7 in the tunnel that connects the Mets dugout to the clubhouse at Citi Field.

Details weren't divulged by the players involved or organization at the time, but The Post has learned the specifics of what transpired in the “Rat/Raccoon” altercation from that night.

The shortstop Lindor, frustrated by the second baseman's latest positioning gaffe and their ensuing argument, according to a club source, grabbed McNeil by the throat and pinned him against a wall in the tunnel. Before the situation could escalate, Mets players hearing the commotion arrived to break it up.

After the Mets beat Arizona 5-4 in a walk-off, neither Lindor nor McNeil would acknowledge the altercation other than to say an animal had been spotted in the tunnel and the two players were arguing over whether it was a rat or raccoon, prompting Mets players to the scene.

Wow, Mr. Smile grabbed McNeil by the throat? Yikes!

I wonder who decided that a rat/raccoon argument made for a plausible cover story?

Re: Full Throated Camaraderie

the story 5 months in the making. SO ENLIGHTENING! it gives a few details to things we basically already knew!

Go further and tell me if the front office purposely moved McNeil away from 2nd, got Javy instead of OF help and then played McNeil in the OF over Davis all because of this nonsense? THAT would be the story. The Atlanta teams thanks them for it though.

I still say McSquirrelface was overheard making fun of Lindy's Mama's

Family
hairdo one too many times and then things boiled over.

I'll never get this bitter criticism of a reporter for successfully sussing out a meaningful fact about the subject of his beat.

Re: Full Throated Camaraderie

'meaningful fact' or 'trivial detail' MONTHS after the incident. This is also after the childish behavior by similar reporters (I don't remember if Puma was one of them at the time) absolutely just disrespectfully harassing players for more details they'd already declined to want to talk about, all while very salient questions about like, the game or THE NEXT DAY'S STARTING PITCHER went unasked.

I just ask that they guys respect the players. No means no. This is why they shouldn't be allowed in the clubhouse.

=Ceetar post_id=80611 time=1635990598 user_id=102]'meaningful fact' or 'trivial detail' ...

I'm not sure who you're quoting so I can't do anything with that.

=Ceetar post_id=80611 time=1635990598 user_id=102]MONTHS after the incident.

I don't know what ethic it is that suggests you don't report something if you learn it after a certain time. I disagree and can't see why it would upset you.

=Ceetar post_id=80611 time=1635990598 user_id=102]This is also after the childish behavior by similar reporters ...

This is, of course, you changing the subject.

=Ceetar post_id=80611 time=1635990598 user_id=102](I don't remember if Puma was one of them at the time)

I can't imagine this matters to you.

=Ceetar post_id=80611 time=1635990598 user_id=102]absolutely just disrespectfully harassing players for more details

So pursuing the story at the time is a sin. Not getting answers until later is also a sin. That's absurd.

=Ceetar post_id=80611 time=1635990598 user_id=102]they'd already declined to want to talk about, all while very salient questions about like, the game or THE NEXT DAY'S STARTING PITCHER went unasked.

I assure you the details of the game were reported on. I can also tell you that the next day's starting pitcher has long since been revealed.

=Ceetar post_id=80611 time=1635990598 user_id=102]I just ask that they guys respect the players.

That isn't actually all you're doing.

=Ceetar post_id=80611 time=1635990598 user_id=102]No means no.

Nothing about your initial post was about whether it's ethical to ask a question more than one time. Please don't change the subject.

=Ceetar post_id=80611 time=1635990598 user_id=102]This is why they shouldn't be allowed in the clubhouse.

I agree (for different reasons) that reporters shouldn't be allowed in the clubhouse, but that's not the subject either.

Lot of ex-Met coaches as well as an ex-acting GM whose tongues might have grown loose in recent days.

At first glance it took me a few seconds to realize who Jerry was. I didn't

know until just NOW!! that his nickname is/was Gordo.

You guys are talking about how Jerry Blevins looks as if Anthony Recker isn't just sitting there.

Just sitting there.

Well, maybe we'd be talking about Recker if he too was wearing a Lois Lane wig.

Blevvy: "I'm not going to endorse choking, but it's great that Lindor made his feelings clear to McNeil, apparently by choking him."

Recky: "I played with Matt Harvey, and while nobody says it's OK to choke a guy, sometimes a guy is just asking to get choked."

Me: "Don't worry, guys, I'm about to get to the bottom of this whole thing."

2021 really was a great season for weirdo Mets story lines.
