No matter how many times the fates tried to say otherwise, the guy was clinically incapable of not being a Met. Led the league in appearances three straight seasons. And it's probably less true than I remember it, but if feels like 80% of the batters he faced were All Stars — Utley, Howard, Votto, Abreu, Freeman, Giambi, Canó, McCann, Crawford, Helton, Gonzalez. Night after night after night.

vs Ryan Howard: 7-36, 14 Ks vs Chase Utley: 8-36, 14 Ks vs Adam Dunn: 8-26, 6 Ks vs Jimmy Rollins: 6-24 vs Shane Victorino: 4-23 vs Adam LaRoche: 6-23 vs Adrian Gonzalez: 4-16, 8 Ks Brian McCann hit him okay -- an .848 OPS, but it was only nine singles and two doubles. And Chipper was 5-for-15, but Chipper had like a career .800 average against us, so that was pretty damn good.

It's also far too soon to lose a Met who called Citi Field his professional home. Perpetual Pedro is the first Citi Field Met to leave us. Citi Field has been in operation for all of thirteen seasons. A decade hasn't gone by since Pedro Feliciano was retiring batters there. For a while, particularly in its infancy, you could be pretty certain that if you planned a day or night at the Mets' red-bricked crib, you would see Pedro Feliciano pitch. Maybe slightly before you clapped along to “Lazy Mary”; maybe a half-inning after. You knew you'd hear the song. You were fairly sure you'd see the southpaw. Was the game close? Did the other team have a dangerous lefty hitter looming? Pedro was available. The final game at Shea Stadium included among its festivities Pedro Feliciano pitching. Flashing back to a brief spring training item from 2013 that looks a lot bigger in retrospect. PORT ST. LUCIE — Pedro Feliciano has been shut down because of an irregular heartbeat discovered during his initial team physical. After being sent to New York for a follow-up MRI, the left-handed reliever was back in camp Saturday, but will undergo more testing and will wear a heart monitor for several days. "He has a heart condition that could possibly be very serious," Terry Collins said. "That's why while we are waiting for further results. He is not to be on the field." Feliciano, 36, was caught off guard by the news, saying that doctors had told him he has a small "hole outside" of his heart, causing an irregular heartbeat. Feliciano said he did not believe it to be a life-threatening condition, but it is serious. "It's scary, I don't know," Feliciano said. "I am waiting for the doctors and for them to bring the monitor down here and then more tests."
