Doing an upgrade install on one of my computers.

Approaching the hour-and-a-half mark with no quick end in sight.

Re: Windows 11

so...what do you think of Windows 11? I really liked the upgrade from Xp/7 to 8.0, mostly because I found XP and 7 to be lethargically slow compared to Linux...but unfortunately people bitched about 8.0 being too different than what they were used to so they dumbed it down for 8.1 and 10 (which also slowed it back down to XP/7 speed instead of Linux speed)

Re: Windows 11

Microsoft is trash across the board and I wish I didn't have to use it.

What's 11 got? more convoluted security nonsense that makes everything complicated or what? I'm sure I'll be forced to upgrade eventually.

unfortunately none of the computers in my house meet the Windows 11 criteria (mostly that TPM 2.0 requirement). So I will have to wait until a new computer is purchased, before getting to try it out...

As far as the lengthy upgrade time, not really a shocker, I think just about any Windows upgrade that I have ever done, took around a couple of hours to complete...

if there were a commonly used version of Linux that had the compatibility that the Windows/iZombie platforms have, I would use that version of Linux in a heartbeat...I've tried and used several different flavors of Linux without issue, other than the fact that most programs that work with Windows/Apple, don't work with Linux; so it basically just becomes a quicker booting internet browser...

Haven't gotten a chance to really try out a Chromebook yet, most of the ones in a decent price range are Celeron chips (no interest in ever using a Celeron again, my wife had a Netbook with a Celeron that was basically a paper weight because everything was so slow to load). And then the ones that have a decent microprocessor in them, are no cheaper than a Windows laptop, so why spend $500+ on a Chromebook when you could get a decent Windows laptop for that?

Right, I have three computers here and only one of the processors is

supported by the new Windows. What's it got? Have nothing to really

report except some things look different. I wasn't really (and never have)

tooting any horns here for Microsoft.

thanks for the update...I have no desire to move to the Apple-verse, but was wondering if Windows 11 was truly an "upgrade" or just Microsoft putting a new coat of paint on their OS

Re: Windows 11

did a brief google and skimmed some reviews...

..it doesn't seem like Windows has anything especially interesting that's worth the hassle of upgrading. There are some edge cases if you're doing some less-standard/more mobile type stuff on a desktop that it might make your life easier to upgrade, but otherwise, it's just Windows.

I'm sure that in due time, Windows will force feed the upgrade, ramming it down the throats of all Windows users, whether they wanna upgrade or not, and no matter how many times you've clicked the do not upgrade option on some pop-up that'll eventually pop up on your PC like every eight seconds.

On another windows note, I can't search any of my files in windows explorer. None of the search boxes work anymore. I can't even enter search terms in the search boxes. I've googled this and its a fairly common problem so I'm definitely not the only one. There are dozens of fixes out there. They're all different. And none of them work. And the complicated fixes I don't even bother. YOu need like a PH.D in swahili to work through those. What drives me fucking nuts is that I probably get a Windows update at least a few times a month and you'd figure they woulda fixed something as big as that by now. It's been more than a year, maybe two now. Do you have any idea how fucking maddening it is not to be able to run a word search on your files? I give up.

Re: Windows 11

Windows (and outlook) search has always sucked hard.

looks like it could be any of a billion reasons, so that's helpful.
