Speed and a proven glove for CF at a reasonable price. I like it. Nimmo can shift over to LF. Things are picking up.

Now if we can resign Stroman (or another front line starter) we will be onto something.

And to think I met his car dealer.

I suppose in a matter of taste I would prefer Conforto but this is a solid and the, a better for us, solution

Marlon Byrd had a pretty good 2013 in blue and orange. We used to call him "Fish Bird" in our house.

Re: Wish Upon a Starling Granted

My assessment so far:

I wouldn't have pursued Canha if I was closing in on Marte, because I think Smith has more upside at a lower price.

But that being said I like that Eppler got to work quickly and decisively. A lot. I also like that he made multiple moves for useful pieces instead of going for one big, overpriced splash. Any notion that people may have had yesterday that nobody wants to come here, or that the Mets were in no position to pull the trigger on anything, is gone.

I also think that everybody is working on the assumption that this time next week there will be a work stoppage. The free agent market is already in full gear a lot more quickly than it normally does, and I expect that to accelerate this week.

"What ya wanna do tonight, Marte?"

"I dunno, Frankie. What YA wanna do?"

"I dunno. Win a pennant, maybe?"

Smith is a poor defender in the outfield who is locked out of his natural position by a much better hitter. Canha is probably higher floor/lower ceiling as a hitter but is a much better defender. If the NL indeed gets the DH this year, Smith will have a chance to convince the Mets to get to rid of Cano and give him the larger side of a platoon with Davis.
