It's a tricky game because you have to eliminate all those who are old but still active; after all we all know what the current versions of Paul and Bruce and Bob and Neil and

Eric and Van, etc. look like. And you have to eliminate all those rockers who never got old - too many to name.

Tull was weird in that they were huge for a time, but then both disbanded and later appeared ti be drop-kicked out of the classic rock rotation for some reason even though

they should have been right in the CR wheelhouse. Prior to stumbling on that picture of Anderson I don't know that I had ever seen a picture of him without the wild hair.

He's resurfaced lately -- bridging what seems to be a decades long gap -- as he promotes some 50th anniversary Tull re-releases.

Pretty sure that's it.

I was thinking I'd seen them in a club we spent way too much time in in the

early 80's in Yorktown, NY. I found a site with all kinds of ancient set-lists from

that era and they did indeed play there. Wiki says they were big on Long Island

despite being from New Orleans.

They were Yuge on L.I. although I doubt they ever got big enough to break out of the same type of club scene where you likely saw them.

L.I. based WBAB was their big promoter so they were big among those listeners who tended to be a bit younger and rowdier than the likes of those tuned to WNEW.

Right. A friend of mine posted a few postcard-type ads on fb they used to have by the

doors of upcoming shows and it was a daily barrage of bands that played a lot in the

tri-state area and were kinda household names (even if just for a half decade). Ill

look later and see if I can find his images and we can all compare notes.

Zebra, Twisted Sister, Good Rats, Rat Race Choir -- glorious Long Island bar bands before the drinking age was raised to 20 then 21.

Twisted (eventually) and Zebra eventually got signed, of course, and I imagine Good Rats stuff was independently released. I saw Zebra at Hofstra and at that NCC show. The versions of the Zebra songs that were on the WBAB compilations were better than one ones released by Atlantic! I think "Who's Behind the Door" and "Take Your Fingers from my Hair." Been so long since I've heard those songs!

I mainly remember that Zebra was maybe the most requested band from, mainly female callers in my mind, girls whose big hair you could hear in their accents.

Each call would always end with the DJ asking, "And how do you show the world you love Rock & Roll?" ... "With a B-A-B Bumpa Sticka!" was the standard reply.

Yeah, he does look like he could be a brother of Guy Fletcher and Doug Feiger, and maybe a goofy cousin of Ray and Dave Davies. He was sort of poor choice to include (my apologies) because despite his modest success coming during the early video era, his face was never particularly famous, at least in the US. He's definitely a big name among the Norman-English-Argentian-Irish set. If my brother Duan were here, he'd name the guy in a second.

His has a degenerative hand disorder and has lost much of his dexterity.

I saw him live two summers ago and his playing was diminished from his heyday. He had a 2nd guitarist on the stage with him to do some of the heavier lifting.

For Frayed Knot's benefit: The man in this photo is irish singer-songwriter Chris De Burgh famed in the U.S. for his schmaltzy ballad "The Lady in Red." I've never heard of Chris De Burgh or know the song Lady in Red - or maybe I would recognize the song if I heard it but have no idea whether or not I actually know it.

The problem isn't that we're not posting enough or that I don't know who CdB is. It's that someone answers the question correctly with a hint as to who the guy is and

it's assumed that everyone else is in on the concept and moves on.

I conflated KC's answer of 'Everybody wants some' with Billy Squire's 'Everybody wants you' and assumed that was the answer because the actual correct answer was

The hat, beard, and bolo tie certainly hint at the right part of the country for the late Charlie Daniels (I think we're tryin to stay with live people here).

But Daniels was a big bear of a guy, 6' 4" or so, and unless that kid is like 6' 9" this dude is and was much smaller than C.D.

It can. Just hadn't to this point.

And Betts is correct whether it be Dick, Dicky, Dickey, or Richard as all four were used in the credits of various releases with the Dickey spelling being the most common.

Betts and drummer Jaimoe are the two surviving Allman Brothers Band original members.

The son is Duane Betts, named of course after pappy's ex-bandmate. Duane, who played with his father in various post-ABB pursuits, now teams up with Devon (son of

Gregg) Allman and Berry Duane Oakley (son of ABB bassist Berry) in the Allman-Betts band.

And if you're sensing a pattern in names, know also that guitar whiz Derek (nephew of ABB drummer Butch) Trucks has a drumming brother named ... Duane.

oe: It occurs to me that with 12 marriages and nine children between them, Gregg & Dickey's kids could populate all kinds of bands.

Re: Name this Rocker

I think I mentioned it here once, but my friend Peter was a teacher at a private boarding school in New England, and his friend was the dorm parent in a dorm that included Elijah Blue Allman.

Some incarnation of the The Allman Brothers were playing Boston, and Peter's friend — who was the type of guy who came up with the sort of ideas that are great as long as everything goes right — called Peter one night and told him to come by with his car to pick him up. He had taken it upon himself to call the Allman Brothers' hotel and let Gregg know he'd be happy to bring his son to the show if he could, you know, get him on the guest list, maybe with some backstage passes, and Gregg was all, "Sure! I'd love to see Elijah!"

Peter hopped in the car and swung by campus as instructed, but just as they're pulling away, the headmaster comes running out, waving a piece of paper. He gestures for the two teachers to get out of the car and explains to them that he has a contract the school signed with Cher upon Elijah's enrollment, stating that Elijah would have no contact, and if the school in any way failed to enforce this, that the student would be removed and all tuition payment and donations would be returned.

Oops.

Whatever ... old story. Hey, who is this sporty fellow smiling with his wife in front of their home?

Re: Name this Rocker

I know how Don looks thanks to my friend Jana.

Jana was sweet and decent and a little naïve back in our school days, but also over-dramatic and a little crazy. Like, the morning after John Lennon's death, a lot of came to school sad, but Jana was dressed head to toe in a fabulous black dress complete with veil. She was crying her heart out and like five other girls were trying to comfort her. I would have guessed she had had perhaps five friends before that morning, and three of them were dudes. And when a rock-'n'-roller dies sometime between 11 PM and Midnight, where does a 13-year-old girl get mourning clothes in time for school the next morning? She'd've gone nuts on me if I asked, so I didn't ask.

But Jana's Beatle jones was the real thing, and she was committed to being a rocker herself. She rarely could be seen in public in something that wasn't at least a little scandalous, and after college she went head on into the rock life and at 54, she still hasn't left it. I've liked her music in a Joan Jett power pop way, but her voice always felt a little over-trained and stilted for a riot grrrl. But nobody would say so, because of that big ol' chip on her shoulder.

But I was talking about Donovan.

While Jana's career has lacked a big break that is certainly unlikely to come now, it's given her some enviable adventures. She's played storied venues like Maxwell's in Hoboken, and super-storied venues like The Cavern in Liverpool. She's also gotten some rock-'n'-roll jobs that have allowed her to continue spending her life in leather jackets and skin-tight dresses and leotards. One of these gigs was as an assistant to legendary promoter Sid Bernstein, the man who booked the Beatles at Shea. Apparently, well into his later years, Bernstein was continuing to operate and Jana was on his staff, and got to meet some semi-legendary older rockers. Also, her naïvete was seemingly alive and well, because a few years back, she sent around a photo of herself with Donovan. She was so proud of this quasi-Beatle-ish encounter, that apparently she was the only one to not notice that Don was looking so far down her cleavage that he seemed to be considering moving in there permanently, but all these years later, none of us had the noive to point it out, because we were still afraid she'd've gone nuts on whichever one of us did.

https://metsrostercentral.files.wordpress.com/2021/12/jana-donovan.jpg>

We really initially didn't even want to admit the issue to each other. Finally, I asked my a friend what he thinks Donovan is thinking in the picture, and he responded, "First, there is a mountain, then there is no mountain, then there is."

Looks like Jennifer Coolidge, but she is not a rocker, to my knowledge.

Debra Harry is still quite recognizable, the pictured blondie not so much.

What makes this one tough is that it's an unretouched photo of the subject, something that was not thought to exist in nature.

I thought it was Madonna, not familiar with a Madge rocker. Didn't she do dish-

soap commercials many moons ago? "You're soaking in it."

Re: Name this Rocker

Not quite sure when or why she got nicknamed Madge, but that was one of the many Madonna personnas over the years.

Most recently she's been billing herself as 'Madam X' while sporting a fuckin eye-patch in her current plea to be considered relevant at age 63 with her hits and significant movie roles now decades in the rear view.

Re: Name this Rocker

Madge is/was her British tabloid nickname. I consign it, along with Macca and Jacko, to the realm of names I will never, ever use.

Yeah, I never heard Macca until just a few years ago and didn't understand where it came from either.

And now to an actual blond

Yeah.

78 y/o and not in good health these days (an aneurysm a few years back and reportedly 'relearning to walk').

Perhaps she's recontemplating the whole starting to smoke at age 11 thing.

Coming soon to a House of the Dragon episode near you?

He looks like he could play a House Velaryon member.
