In the 1960s, Bill Haley moved to Mexico and his band - known as Bill Haley y sus Cometas - had massive hits on the Mexican charts and their own Mexican tv series.

"Florida Twist" was Bill Haley's response to Chubby Checker and Joey Dee and the Starliters and was a monster #1 song on the Mexican charts.

This is just a very unexpected second act for a rock & roll pioneer.

In a way, it's kind of his third act, as he'd been banging around since the war and having some success with his band as a western swing act.

Q: Can snakes slither backwards or do they just prefer not to?

A: I think they prefer not to. The ability of snakes to control locomotion is legendary. They can move in so many different ways it's truly astonishing. The level of coordination and motor control of the thousands of complex muscles that cross anywhere from one to 30+ vertebral segments is baffling. We are really at the infancy of understanding how they do what they do because the system is so complex. But, there is one part of the system that is specifically designed to not go backwards. The scales on their belly point backwards so they can engage the substrate and this allows them to gain purchase on tiny imperfections in what they are moving across. When and if they tried to go backwards, these scales would automatically catch and start ripping, tearing and getting in the way. So I am sure they have the ability, motor/neural control to go backwards, but their scales makes it difficult/uncomfortable.

The "Joe Michaels Mile" -- a biking- hiking path running along the Cross Island from Fort Totten to Douglaston, is named in honor of Queens own Joe Michaels, the drummer for Jay and the Americans who took up marathoning after a series of heart attacks -- six of them-- beginning in his late 20s. He later took up ultramarathoning, and died of a 7th heart attack in his early 40s.

Also, the Joe Michaels Mile is actually 2.4 miles but I knew that already.

I vividly recall a New York Post issue where the story of a septuagenarian Quinn impregnating his personal assistant, to his wife's surprise, was deemed newsworthy enough to get a front-page splash headline that just read "ZORBA THE STUD."

The songs "Angel of the Morning" and "Wild Thing" were both composed by the same songwriter, Chip Taylor. Taylor's birth name was James Wesley Voight and he's the brother of John Voight (and thus the uncle of Angelina Jolie). As wildly different as those two songs are, it's quite a musical legacy to have!
