American Pie

Finally saw this one, if only to hear "One time in Band Camp" in context. Didn't really get the appeal (of the line, or of the movie). Seemed like a so-so SNL skit. What am I missing?

It was a brief return to the kind of R-rated comedy that had a brief string of successes in the 80s (Porky's, etc).

I liked this movie in spite of its going for too many easy laughs. The jock-chorus-singer story was sweet, Eugene Levyis a genius and his awkward relationship with his teen son made your skin crawl. Everyone knew a jerk like Stfler in high school.

Depends on the age and actual experience I guess. Like JD said, you knew a Stifler in High School, you knew guys like Jim, Kevin, Oz and Finch, even in different social groups the templates of the characters are pretty much indentifiable

I do think that it got overhyped in the ensuing years based on its popularity, and maybe its all the Josh Wheedon (Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Angel, Fire Fly/Serenity) fan boys that helped the popularity of the Band Camp line as Alyson Hannigan was Willow on Buffy, and actually had a bit of the same story arc of a geek with an underlying wildness to her.

And as well the hotness, or percieved hotness thanks to mass media and the likes of Howard Stern/Opie & Anthony of Tara Reid, Shannon Elizabeth and Mena Suvari
