Mets:

Johnny Dickshot Apr 23 2006 03:32 PM |
Reyes needs a day off.
OlerudOwned Apr 23 2006 03:33 PM |
So much for Piazza going for #400 vs. the Mets.
Gwreck Apr 23 2006 03:49 PM |
Good to see Cameron back. In an interview with Eddie C. on the pregame show, he sounded a little apprehensive to be back though... "everytime I see a couple guys coming near each other, I cringe a little..."
seawolf17 Apr 23 2006 04:07 PM |
Never underestimate the power of the dramatic pinch-hit home run. It is good to see Cameron back.
Nymr83 Apr 23 2006 04:14 PM |
Zambrano still sucks it seems, byebye ball
Zvon Apr 23 2006 04:15 PM |
Zambi allows an 0-2 homer.
Nymr83 Apr 23 2006 04:19 PM |
nice play in the hole by woodward, matsui stayed in there against a slide and got hte throw off but not in time for 2.
Bret Sabermetric Apr 23 2006 04:21 PM |
Matsui currently at .300 for the year. Mark this moment down. He's due up next in about twenty minutes.
Zvon Apr 23 2006 04:23 PM |
very nice play by Woody. We could have gotten that call at 1st too..... We need a lil offense. OW- i just saw that replay of Wright getting hit by the pitch last night.

Keith apologizes.
Bret Sabermetric Apr 23 2006 04:26 PM |
Hernandez apologizes for "inappropriate" comments about the broad on the bench last night, and then promptly cites chapter and verse of the rules specifically prohibiting anyone other than specific personnel (players, managers, trainer and assistant trainer), regardless of gender, being on the bench.
mlbaseballtalk Apr 23 2006 04:26 PM |
Ugh, trade him for...(fill in the blank at this point)
Rockin' Doc Apr 23 2006 04:28 PM |
Trying CBSsportsline.com Game Center upon Frayed Knots mention in the thread for yesterday's game. Rather generic looking compared to ESPN and MLB, but I do like seeing the complete boxscore (both teams hitting and pitching stats) at the same time as they unfold. It has all the basic information one could want and seems to move along pretty quickly.
mlbaseballtalk Apr 23 2006 04:28 PM |
Wouldn't she be specific personnel though? As an assistant trainer for the Pads? I mean she was wearing the same garb that Met training staff usually wear
Gwreck Apr 23 2006 04:29 PM |
Howie Rose reports that Wright was asked if he thought the plunk was intentional after stealing a base when the Mets were up by 5. Wright said he didn't think so.
Nymr83 Apr 23 2006 04:29 PM |
and if Keith Hernandez had quoted he rulebook last night without bringing up her gender he'd be 100% right. But in the context of an apology it's the wrong time to read the rule.
Zvon Apr 23 2006 04:29 PM |
I missed this --must be from last nights game, huh? So Keith had a problem with this babe, or what? What did he say last night?
Nymr83 Apr 23 2006 04:31 PM |
no, because the head trainer and assidtant trainer are allowed (thats 2 trainers), she was a 3rd "trainer", which isn't allowed.
Zvon Apr 23 2006 04:34 PM |
a somewhat smoother 2nd inning for Victor :)
mlbaseballtalk Apr 23 2006 04:34 PM |
Ahhhh, never mind...
TransMonk Apr 23 2006 04:35 PM |
I love Keith's honesty...it is refreshingly different for an announcer to actually speak his mind (even if it's not PC).
mlbaseballtalk Apr 23 2006 04:36 PM |
The way it came out, it sounded like Keith was saying she as a woman should not have been on the bench in a diatribe against non-specific personnel, it just came out as a bit sexist
mlbaseballtalk Apr 23 2006 04:38 PM |
I heard the comments played on a local ESPN sportscenter radio update. But dollars to doughnuts I bet the update guy only did that to tweak the Mets, and if Bobby Murcer did it, the comment would not have been replayed.
Gwreck Apr 23 2006 04:39 PM |
God, Endy, take a freaking pitch.
Zvon Apr 23 2006 04:42 PM |
shame on Keith. *Z plays his lil violin* He didnt really say just cuz she's a woman, right? I love the way these things get digested and then spit out again. He did pick the one who was unqualified to be there correctly, did he not?
mlbaseballtalk Apr 23 2006 04:46 PM |
He did say "What is that girl doing in the dugout?" though, making it seem that he was going after her as a woman though at first.
abogdan Apr 23 2006 04:47 PM |
It was heavily implied. He said something along the lines of, "I'm not saying women belong only in the kitchen, but . . ." I don't remember exactly what all of his comments were, but the general impression I received was the he was expressing his complete shock that a woman was sitting in a MLB dugout wearing a uniform. Even if it was an ugly Padres camouflage one.
Zvon Apr 23 2006 04:49 PM Edited 1 time(s), most recently on Apr 23 2006 04:53 PM |
well, I guess they'll spin it however they see fit.
Zvon Apr 23 2006 04:51 PM |
So he aint sexist. Just has a bad sense of appropriete humor
ScarletKnight41 Apr 23 2006 04:52 PM |
The way that Nady catches the ball makes me nervous - I wish he would use both hands to make sure he has control of the ball.
mlbaseballtalk Apr 23 2006 04:52 PM |
It started when Piazza hit his homer and was being congratulated in the dugout, Keith went "What is that girl doing in the dugout" before knowing that she wasn't really supposed to be there, I think thats how it started seeming like Keith was being sexist. If Keith was told "Thats the Padres trainer" or something he would have backed down
Zvon Apr 23 2006 04:54 PM |
I doubt he thought the Pad's allowed groupies on the bench.
A Boy Named Seo Apr 23 2006 04:58 PM |
Kaz pops out to third. I think the scouting report on Matsui's gotta be "get ahead in the count early with breaking balls, and then just keep throwing more breaking pitches anyway". He's scalded a few balls so far, but they seem to have been on fastballs when he's gotten ahead and taken the pitcher to a 3-ball count.
Zvon Apr 23 2006 05:00 PM |
Kaz just throws the bat a the outside curve. Hes gotta either lay off that pitch or go with it.
Zvon Apr 23 2006 05:04 PM |
Come on Floyd.
Rockin' Doc Apr 23 2006 05:07 PM |
Floyd flies out to end the threat.
Nymr83 Apr 23 2006 05:08 PM |
i thought he hit that one a mile, but a mile just isn't far enough on this field.
seawolf17 Apr 23 2006 05:15 PM |
Dammit, Victor. Throw a fucking strike.
Gwreck Apr 23 2006 05:17 PM |
Bases loaded for Giles = not good times. Bad times.
ScarletKnight41 Apr 23 2006 05:18 PM |
FuckShit! A Grand Slam for Giles :(
Johnny Dickshot Apr 23 2006 05:18 PM |
Jeezus. 2 out and nobody on and now this.
Gwreck Apr 23 2006 05:19 PM |
You could see that one coming a long way off. Dammit Victor.
Nymr83 Apr 23 2006 05:19 PM |
Victor Zambrano is a fuckin train wreck.
Zvon Apr 23 2006 05:19 PM |
ouch
MFS62 Apr 23 2006 05:20 PM |
How did we not know that was coming?
seawolf17 Apr 23 2006 05:21 PM |
They could trade Victor Zambrano for Ty Wigginton's jockstrap right now and it'd be a good trade.
Bret Sabermetric Apr 23 2006 05:29 PM |
No, no, it's Julio they need to trade for Wiggy's jock; Zambrano goes for Scott Kazmir's undergarments.
Nymr83 Apr 23 2006 05:38 PM |
This stinks, we could have taken 3/4 this weekend and all 4 if we didn't start Zambrano and could score a run.
Bret Sabermetric Apr 23 2006 05:40 PM |
If my grandmother had wheels, she'd be a tricycle.
Gwreck Apr 23 2006 05:41 PM |
Lot of baseball left to play today. Padres bullpen isn't exactly the quality of the Mets' pen either.
Gwreck Apr 23 2006 05:42 PM |
Wright's gotta get at least a run home with a runner at 3rd and 1 out. Striking out = not acceptable.
Nymr83 Apr 23 2006 05:43 PM |
Wright with a nice infield single, lets get a few moire...
Gwreck Apr 23 2006 05:44 PM |
Nice spot for Floyd to start breaking out of the slump right here.
Nymr83 Apr 23 2006 05:45 PM |
its 5-2 on a dunked in single by Floyd and Delgado then stopped at 3B and then ran home on bad fielding.
Rockin' Doc Apr 23 2006 05:50 PM |
A hit by Nady would be huge here with Woodie and Chavez due next. The big guns have to come through.
Rockin' Doc Apr 23 2006 05:52 PM |
Now it's up to Woodie as Nady pops up in foul territory.
Nymr83 Apr 23 2006 05:53 PM |
Chavez with the bags loaded...
Gwreck Apr 23 2006 05:53 PM Edited 1 time(s), most recently on Apr 23 2006 05:55 PM |
I hope Beltran is well enough to play in the field. REALLY need a pinch hitter here.
Rockin' Doc Apr 23 2006 05:54 PM |
Woodie walks and now it's up to Endy "Hey what's this bat for anyway?" Chavez to try to drive in the runners. Damn.
Nymr83 Apr 23 2006 05:55 PM |
2-run single for Endy Chavez!
TransMonk Apr 23 2006 05:56 PM |
Beltran who?
Rockin' Doc Apr 23 2006 05:56 PM |
Miracle of miracles, Chavez comes through with a 2 run single.
Nymr83 Apr 23 2006 05:57 PM |
Reyes punch-hitting for the pitche, i'd have used Franco here.
Nymr83 Apr 23 2006 05:58 PM |
....but i guess it doesnt matter who bats when the pitcher can't find the plate, ball 4 to Reyes, its Matsui with the bases loaded and we'll have a pitching change.
TheOldMole Apr 23 2006 05:58 PM |
Reyes really seems to have learned how to look over a pitch.
abogdan Apr 23 2006 05:58 PM |
Two RBIs for Endy Chavez!?!? Jose Reyes draws a walk!?!? What type of alternate universe have we fallen into?
Gwreck Apr 23 2006 05:59 PM |
I think Reyes may wind up staying in the game on some sort of double switch.
Nymr83 Apr 23 2006 06:00 PM |
makes sense, put the pitcher in Matsui's spot.
Zvon Apr 23 2006 06:00 PM |
yep, and off the bench too. Gotta like it.
Rockin' Doc Apr 23 2006 06:02 PM |
I can't believe the Padres are taking Cassidy out. I really liked him. Now Embry comes. Would Willie let Julio Franco pinch hit here then leave Reyes in to play SS and move Woodie to second? Apparently not.
Zvon Apr 23 2006 06:03 PM |
go ahead and walk him Embree.
Nymr83 Apr 23 2006 06:04 PM |
Matsui strikes out with the bases loaded, inning over.
abogdan Apr 23 2006 06:04 PM |
Ugh. Hernandez would have gotten a hit there. Keith Hernandez, that is. Andy would have hit a swining bunt to the pitcher.
A Boy Named Seo Apr 23 2006 06:04 PM |
And Kaz got all fastballs that AB. Damn it.
Gwreck Apr 23 2006 06:04 PM |
SHIT!
Rockin' Doc Apr 23 2006 06:04 PM |
Matsui goes down swinging. It's a whole new ball game now ladies and gentleman.
Zvon Apr 23 2006 06:05 PM |
How bout Woody goes to second and reyes goes to short. Kaz sits.
Gwreck Apr 23 2006 06:05 PM |
Especially with that K, Willie needs to double-switch here, keeping Reyes in, Woody to second.
Johnny Dickshot Apr 23 2006 06:09 PM |
Wright's girlfriend musta broke up with him.
Zvon Apr 23 2006 06:09 PM |
Wright gives em a free pass.
Nymr83 Apr 23 2006 06:15 PM |
Fuck. they got another one.
Nymr83 Apr 23 2006 06:17 PM |
I love submarine pitchers.
Zvon Apr 23 2006 06:19 PM |
....and she injured his groin first. ;) Errors kill, and that run was big.
Zvon Apr 23 2006 06:26 PM |
Nice double by Wright.
Gwreck Apr 23 2006 06:26 PM |
C'mon Cliff. Let's get this one tied.
Nymr83 Apr 23 2006 06:28 PM |
Floyd strands the runner at 2nd, this hasn't been a pretty season for him so far.
Zvon Apr 23 2006 06:29 PM |
ugh, he dribbles out.
Zvon Apr 23 2006 06:31 PM |
retire Piazza' number?
Nymr83 Apr 23 2006 06:34 PM |
Hernandez very non-commital on # retirements, he doesnt want to get in more trouble!
Gwreck Apr 23 2006 06:38 PM |
Count on it, esp. when Piazza becomes the second* Met in the hall of fame. * Met hat on plaque; primary accomplishments as a Met
Gwreck Apr 23 2006 06:52 PM |
Julio time.
Zvon Apr 23 2006 06:55 PM |
If he goes into the Hall with a Met hat on, and he should, your probobly right.
Zvon Apr 23 2006 07:04 PM |
Julio looks decent.
Zvon Apr 23 2006 07:09 PM |
Old man river, and he bloops a single.
Johnny Dickshot Apr 23 2006 07:11 PM |
This game jumped the shark when Paul "Ideal No. 2 Hitter" LoDuca GIDPed with nobody out in the first inning.
Bret Sabermetric Apr 23 2006 07:13 PM |
They battled.
Zvon Apr 23 2006 07:13 PM |
Well, it ends in a split series.
Nymr83 Apr 23 2006 07:14 PM |
or when the Mets pulled to within 5-4 and had the bases loaded and someone struck out on all fastballs. |
Nymr83 Apr 23 2006 07:14 PM |
he's not here anymore, keep up.
Zvon Apr 23 2006 07:15 PM |
I saw that, and thought that, but the grand slam off Zamby was the slammer.
Nymr83 Apr 23 2006 07:15 PM |
available to hit but not play CF which ended up ok because he'd have been used for Chavez with 2 on when Chavez ended up singling.
Lundy Apr 24 2006 11:32 AM |
Listened to some of the San Diego radio broadcast of this one. They referred to the top of the ninth as "Trevor Time." Not only that, "Trevor Time" was sponsored.
