If Alou walks here, it will be a typical Bannister inning.

2-0 as I type.

Yancy Street Gang

Alou doubles. 1-0 Giants, second and third, 1 out.

At the very least I'd like to see the catching duties slide toward a 60/40 split from the 80/20 or so it seems to be now.

Rotblatt

Bannister grounds out to first, dropping the batting average of Mets pitchers all the way down to .231.

3:35 start. It's 2-1 Giants.

How much is Cliff missing by on these?

Johnny Dickshot
Apr 26 2006 04:28 PM

Yeah, these webtracker thingies make it sound like every flay ball pins an outfielder against the wall.

According to it, all 3 outs were "deep" flies, I think.

Rotblatt

Shit.

Well, Iriki has been throwing the ball well (16.7 IP, 2.70 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, 16 K, 6 BB), as has Gonzalez (23 IP, 3.52 ERA, 1.09 WHIP, 16 K, 5 BB) . . .

Hillbilly

Johnny Dickshot

Googling reveals that last year he was the oldest player "in 96 years" to steal a base. Looks like:

Definetly the latter.

Edit: No intentional walk, hmm.

Go get him Billy.

TheOldMole

Error keeps the Giants alive and Bonds at the plate.

Been a tough week for Wright.

duan

was the throw a 'botch' or was it being forced to rush and trying to hard to get the out?

Edgy DC
Apr 26 2006 06:40 PM

David Wright, it is for you to return this win unto us.

TheOldMole
Apr 26 2006 06:40 PM

It was a bad throw. A good throw has him.

Gwreck
Apr 26 2006 06:43 PM

No worries, it's Armando pitching. Reyes walks to get that go-ahead run on.

Centerfield
Apr 26 2006 06:45 PM

Reyes steals. Valentin should lay one down.

Gwreck
Apr 26 2006 06:47 PM

Intentional walk of Delgado gives Wright the chance for redemption.

who'd you bring in for the tenth?

bradford's gotta be a possibilty with two righties to come up.

Nice Steve Bieser reference by Howie as Reyes tries to induce the balk.

Must not be. Mando survives it.

Hillbilly

Woodie doubled in Castro from second. Reyes singled Woodie home, and stole second with Oliver staying in the game to hit. He grounded out for the second out.

Edgy DC
Apr 26 2006 07:21 PM

Delgado walked to bring up Wright...

duan

Edgy DC

Still there's quite a bit to throw in the WIllie Watch here I reckon ...
Great win though 14-7's a pretty tasty start, even if we just get 1 from 3 in atlanta they'll be below .500 and we'll be well above.

I'm not happy that Wagner blew the save, but I am happy about the fact that the blown save didn't define the game. In the past few years, the Mets would not have been able to rebound from such a blow. It's nice to see that they can rally and pick up their closer after a less than stellar performance.

Blame that blown save on the inept third baseman, not the closer. Wagner should have had a 1-2-3 inning.

ScarletKnight41
Apr 26 2006 07:58 PM

The inept third baseman (whom I love) definitely contributed to the mess. But the gopher ball to Bonds was all Wagner.

Afterward, nearly every teammate approached Wright to console him about the error, his fifth since last Wednesday. The win made the error easier to absorb, but Wright still approached Wagner to apologize. "Don't you ever apologize to me again," the closer instructed him.
